SUMMARY:
1. To coordinate, plan, promote & implement the "Greener Generations Program" where senior participants will address climate change by learning how to use compost yard waste/food leftovers and small plot gardening and home gardening.
2. To provide program outreach for the "Greener Generations Program"
3. To assist with the development of Centre's seniors' programs, activities and events.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan and operate under the supervision of the Manager, Community Development and the seniors' programs, special events and activities for seniors and their families.
To develop and implement the "Greener Generations Program" and activities for seniors that will, reduce social isolation, by increasing Peer to Peer Engagement opportunities, increase seniors Volunteer Engagement and capacity, Promote Healthy aging, develop and learning more about issues affecting seniors in the Waterfront community and increasing seniors leadership skills and autonomy, increase access to cultural programming, increase participation in decision-making process and build a sense of community among the families of the Waterfront Neighbourhood Centre.
Responsible for the design and implementation activities for the "Greener Generations Program"
To assist in community development and outreach for the "Greener Generations Program" and to act as a resource to community and families as they seek to identify their needs and to develop resources to meet these needs on an ongoing basis.
Assists in planning and implementing age-appropriate, health and wellbeing, environmentally friendly, organic square footage garden-based education programs at WNC and local community gardens.
Facilitates input from WNC staff, community gardening volunteers and program partners in "Greener Generations Program" design, program development and implementation.
Engage participants in gardening tasks such as preparation, planting, weeding, watering, harvesting, etc. while increasing their knowledge in seed propagation, small plot gardening and yard waste to make compost.
To assist seniors and their families in accessing multiple services, support, resources and to maintain active linkages with other resource centers and organizations.
Promote the Centre's Activities.
To provide regular program reports and evaluations, documentation for all serious encounters.
Arrives for scheduled shifts on time.
Performs other program related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Experience working with seniors from diverse backgrounds.
Certification or training in seniors' issues or related human service discipline or combination or equivalent related education and professional experience. Gerontology Certification is an asset.
Experience in working with seniors and families and demonstrated commitment to a community-based approach to service delivery.
Knowledge of multicultural communities, 2SLGBTQ+, women's issues, men's issues and demonstrated ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge of related community services.
Creative ability and understanding of seniors, behavior management, program planning and group facilitation.
Coaching Certification is an asset.
Ability to work well with volunteers and parents and encouraging parental input.
Vulnerable Sector Screening - Police Reference Check.
CPR and First Aid are assets
Salary Scale: $20.42/hr. Wage Grid 4 Step 1
Hours: 8 hours per week
Start Date: As soon as possible. End Date: March 31, 2025.
