Job Title: IT Technical Business Analyst (Intermediate)
Client: Government of Alberta - Technology and Innovation
Location: Remote within Canada (occasional onsite meetings in Edmonton, AB)
Project Overview
The Government of Alberta's Collaboration and Content Services (CCS) branch is undertaking a complex enterprise migration from SharePoint 2016 to SharePoint Online. This role supports content migration, information architecture, technical analysis, and the modernization of legacy SharePoint solutions--including systems using InfoPath, Nintex, SharePoint Designer workflows, and other custom components--to Microsoft 365 technologies such as Power Apps and Power Automate.
Reporting to the Senior IMT Business Analyst Lead, the IT Technical Business Analyst will work closely with ministries, program areas, and technical teams to ensure successful planning, migration, and implementation activities. This includes gathering requirements, coordinating stakeholders, documenting processes, providing technical guidance, and ensuring alignment with IMT standards and operational policies.
Key Responsibilities
Business Analysis & Requirements
Gather, document, and validate business, functional, and technical requirements for content migration and SharePoint/Power Platform solutions.
Develop information architecture and support solution design aligned with GoA standards.
Analyze existing departmental policies, business rules, data requirements, and system processes.
Prepare project documentation including scopes, plans, specifications, and status updates.
Technical & Operational Support
Provide IMT support, coordination, and stakeholder engagement across all CCS-supported systems.
Assess impacts of organizational changes (e.g., department renaming, program transitions) on Active Directory, file systems, and security structures.
Document technical recommendations and support solution design and implementation in partnership with subject matter experts.
Review new service/technology requests and assess impacts on operational environments.
Project Coordination & Governance
Lead stakeholder consultations and facilitate meetings.
Support project planning, resource coordination, and adherence to IMT governance frameworks.
Manage risks, issues, dependencies, and escalations.
Ensure deliverables meet scope, quality expectations, and established timelines.
Provide ongoing status reporting and maintain documentation in team SharePoint sites.
Quality Assurance & Review
Support proof-of-concept and pilot rollouts.
Provide quality control during production implementations.
Ensure operational guidelines, policies, and best practices are accurately communicated to clients.
Required Qualifications
Education
Must meet or exceed one of the approved educational pathways (BA or equivalent).
Mandatory Experience (minimum 5 years each)
Business analysis translating business requirements into detailed specifications.
Project coordination supporting technical teams in complex environments.
Defining project scope, goals, and requirements with diverse stakeholder groups.
Requirements gathering across multiple ministries/business units.
Complex SharePoint initiatives, including managed metadata, workflows, and integrations.
Development, integration, and support of SharePoint solutions.
Creating integrated system and technical design specifications.
Nice-to-Have Experience
4+ years analyzing process maps and data flow diagrams.
3+ years designing, developing, and implementing complex IT solutions.
4+ years creating project documentation for enterprise initiatives.
3+ years working with IT service management processes or tools.
4+ years working on projects with rapidly shifting priorities.
Equipment Requirements
Resource must supply their own computer and equipment compatible with Azure Virtual Desktop (Windows preferred).
GoA provides system access but does not provide hardware for remote workers.
Onsite attendance may be occasionally required; travel costs are not reimbursed.
Additional Requirements
Must work from within Canada.
Criminal background check required prior to start.
Completion of mandatory training (FOIP, security awareness, etc.) after onboarding.
This is a net new role (no incumbent).
