The opportunity:
The Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS), located in downtown Ottawa, is seeking a talented, technical, client-centric, IT Support Specialist. Reporting to and under the supervision of the Chief Technology & Innovation Officer, this position is accountable for the daily provision of on-site support services for laptop hardware/software and associated infrastructure. This role involves providing internal technical support for employee computing including license management as well as maintaining server assets that bolster our enterprise computing environments.
This is a full-time permanent position and requires the individual to be comfortable working from the office at least once a week.
The role and responsibilities:
  • Provide assistance to staff with the installation, configuration, and ongoing usability of laptop computers, peripheral equipment, and software in line with established standards and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with vendor support contacts to troubleshoot technical issues with staff computing equipment and software.
  • Oversee computing application deployments, patching, and antivirus updates, and coordinate quarterly or bi-quarterly patch updates in collaboration with management.
  • Manage server infrastructure components related to laptop management, including but not limited to Office365, Windows Active Directory account setup, Jira and Microsoft Teams setups, Microsoft email account creation and modification, and more.
  • Handle level 1 technical requests from stakeholders, including but not limited to employee on/off-boarding, SharePoint front-end administration, Teams phone system changes, and network share/file management.
  • Assist in maintaining Teams phones and boardroom systems, cables, etc.
  • Oversee security and user management (password management, email access, mobile device setup, network access).
  • AV maintenance and support along Encryption integration experience.
  • Backups restore experience with file servers.
  • Identify business requirements and contribute to budgetary needs.
  • Create and maintain an inventory list for all capital assets, licenses, and product keys.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to IT Support (e.g., list of all PCs, IPs, etc.).

Qualifications:
  • A Post-Secondary Diploma, preferably in Computer Systems Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with installing, maintaining, and configuring laptop computers, laptops, etc., is a must have.
  • Microsoft Certifications are preferred.
  • Experience with iPhone and Android-based devices is a must have.

The successful candidate:
You are an expert in training and orienting staff on hardware and software usage. You can conduct research on hardware and software requirements at the request of the management. You can evaluate functional needs to determine specifications for purchases and order computer supplies. You can efficiently manage images, applications and OS builds. You have experience in VPN and troubleshooting connection and efficient in asset management and management of hardware cycle refreshes. You can also manage devices in Remote Management Agent. You are a highly organized and detail-oriented, and analytical individual who is a self-starter with a high degree of initiative. You can produce strong results within tight deadlines. You have strong communication skills and can clearly convey pertinent information to internal stakeholders at the appropriate level of detail. Your strong team orientation enables you to work with multiple departments to meet their IT needs.
