Job Description


The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is harnessing data to improve outcomes and drive business decisions. In August of 2022, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) announced that Canada will be getting a three-digit number (988) for suicide prevention. The federal government followed this news with that CAMH will lead coordination of the delivery of this service. This will build on CAMH\xe2\x80\x99s work on , the existing national suicide prevention line in Canada. This project will involve coordinating with provincial and territorial partners, agencies and stakeholders to ensure the service delivery and technology delivery models are implemented effectively with the goal of providing this critical service to anyone that requires help, whenever they require help.

Position Description

The IT Specialist \xe2\x80\x93 System Administrator will provide central support for CAMH Business Intelligence platforms, including database infrastructure and Tableau in support of CAMH Stakeholders / Data Consumers. The System Administrators primary accountability will be to maintain the integrity of CAMH data, reporting and visualization/analytics infrastructure, including network connectivity, server maintenance and database administration. The System Administrator will provide technical expertise in implementing and managing business intelligence data infrastructure, promoting and optimizing database operations, troubleshooting, database/application back-up and recovery, and will ensure all systems are monitored, managed, and patched.

Reporting to the Manager, Data Operations. The System Administrator will provide technical expertise core system support with a focus on maximizing technical investments and optimizing performance, based on best-practices.

Key Accountabilities

  • Maintain and administer cluster\'s database and dashboard servers to ensure they are patched, tuned, recoverable, and secured
  • Support new projects, provide database solutions, and support day-to-day DBA activities
  • Manage SQL database in prod/QA/dev/UAT environments including installation, configuration, backup, recovery, upgrades, schema changes, etc
  • Perform database health monitoring and diagnostics
  • Implement monitoring, auditing, and alert systems for SQL databases
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems with SQL
  • Design, implement, maintain and automate the appropriate backup and recovery architecture
  • Work with various teams for performance tuning and optimization, query optimization, index tuning, caching, buffer tuning, etc
  • Perform capacity planning exercises to properly identify required hardware, software, database configuration/architecture necessary to support application needs
  • Create processes to ensure data integrity and identify potential data errors
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend innovative solutions for production enhancements and improvements
  • Perform daily administration functions and change management in support of IT operations
  • Support other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of experience with high volume SQL database administration and in the following areas:
  • Replication
  • High availability (HA)
  • Load balancing
  • Query optimization
  • Schema design disaster recovery
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on system administration experience, specifically with Microsoft SQL-Server Administration
  • Knowledge of ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) principles, roles and responsibilities of best practices for IT application support, including IT Service Continuity, Disaster Recovery, Incident, Problem, and Change and Release Management
  • Knowledge of network infrastructure technologies, midrange server hardware/environments, operating systems, web-based application infrastructure architecture and infrastructure components, application software such as middleware, application servers, web servers, reporting services, business intelligence and analytics, data integration (extract, transform, load), workload automation, scripting languages, secured gateways, public/private key management, and application/performance monitoring tools
  • Experience with DB performance tuning is required
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent client-relations skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Self-starter with an ability to work independently
  • Able to deal with conflict in a professional manner

Please Note: This full-time, contract (1 year) position is part of the OPSEU Bargaining Unit.

Salary Range: $38.21 - $51.54 per hour
