Work environment


At AAFC, scientists work with industry, academia and other partners to create better opportunities for farmers and all Canadians through agricultural research and innovation. The department also manages consolidated program delivery for Canada\'s agriculture, agri-food and agri-based products sector. These programs are responsible on an annual basis to deliver billions of dollars of support to the agricultural sector of Canada. IT professionals play key roles in enabling this agricultural research, program delivery, and innovation.

EDUCATION:
Graduation from a two-year program of study from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

If you were educated outside of Canada, you must have your certificates and/or diplomas assessed against Canadian education standards. Click on the link below to contact the Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials (CICIC). Degree equivalency EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 2 years working in the IM/IT field with increasing levels of responsibility and experience in application development role(s).
Experience in the identification, analysis and resolution of IM/IT system issues.
Experience in programming or configuring, and testing, and implementing new or enhanced functionality in an IM/IT system.
Experience providing IM/IT technical advice, assistance and recommendations to colleagues or clients.

EXPERIENCE:
Experience gathering and documenting business or technical requirements.
Experience developing or modifying websites or web applications to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
Experience working with JavaScript frameworks.
Experience in designing or developing applications using programming languages (including but not limited to: JAVA, .NET, ColdFusion, PowerShell, Python, etc.).
Experience developing, testing or supporting COTS or open source platforms (including but not limited to: MS Dynamics, MS SharePoint, Adobe Experience Manager, Drupal, MS Teams, M365/O365,Cognos BI, CCM Enterprise, Azure DevOps, Red Hat OpenShift, etc.).
Experience developing or maintaining database access components of an IM/IT application (including but not limited to: RESTful or SOAP web services, SQL/PLSQL, database persistence frameworks, etc.).
Experience working with cloud-based development technologies, including application containerization, microservices, and APIs (including but not limited to: Docker, Singularity, Kubernetes, Openshift).
Experience working with cloud platform technologies, including implementation of Infrastructure-asCode and scripting to support automation of common tasks.
Experience with Linux, including software installation, Linux system configuration, system maintenance, performance monitoring and administration.
Experience working in an Agile Scrum development team.
Experience working in a scientific environment.
Experience developing software using open-source libraries.
Experience processing or managing science data (examples: genomic data, biodiversity data or biological collection data) or developing and maintaining systems and tools for the processing or management of science data (examples: bioinformatics pipelines, software for FAIR management and analysis of scientific data, scalable cloud or distributed computing platforms for running data pipelines).
