Job Summary


Under the supervision of the Supervisor, this position performs a variety of semi-skilled labouring duties related to the maintenance, installation and operation of commercial irrigation systems.

Duties & Responsibilities


Performs all aspects of work to irrigation systems, including scheduled and emergency repairs, preventive maintenance and new installations. Services sprinkler heads, electric valves, controllers, pumps and all related components of commercial irrigation systems. Performs spring start-up, fall winterization and seasonal operation of irrigation systems. Assists electricians with controller operation and troubleshooting electrical malfunctions in the field. Performs work, as required, to improve existing irrigation systems to meet operating standards. Operates and perform minor repairs to a variety of equipment used for irrigation maintenance and servicing. Supports and promotes a safe and positive workplace culture through a variety of initiatives and activities. Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations in addition to the City of Saskatoon's Administrative Occupational Health & Safety Policies and departmental procedures. Reads and interprets blueprints for new installations, upgrading and maintenance of irrigation systems. Transports material, tools and equipment to and from job sites. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Eduction, Training and Experience Requirements


Grade 12 education. Three seasons' recent experience in commercial irrigation related to service and installation. Successful completion of turf management classes from a recognized horticulture diploma program, e.g. O.D.H., would be an asset. Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence. Current driver's abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record. Possession of, or ability to obtain within 3 months after date of hire, a valid cross-connection certificate. Possession of, or ability to obtain within one year after date of hire, a valid first aid certificate.



Knowledge, Abilities and Skills


Considerable knowledge of safety practises related to working with commercial irrigation. Knowledge of moisture requirements for turf and related irrigation standards. Knowledge of standard methods and materials related to the installation and service of irrigation systems. Demonstrated ability to use the tools and equipment of the irrigation industry. Ability to read and interpret blueprints. Ability to organize daily servicing and repair requests in an efficient manner. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other civic employees. Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.

$26.14 to $28.82 CAD

per hour
