Course Number and Title: IRE 1630H-S Negotiation Skills, Theory and Practice

Course Description:
As human resources and labour relations professionals, our ability to negotiate effectively is paramount to our performance as the majority of our workday is spent influencing colleagues, vendors, clients and other stakeholders. This course is about becoming a better negotiator through the understanding of theory, practice, and self-reflection. As this course is highly interactive, students are expected to prepare by completing the course readings and applying that knowledge directly in class every week. Periodically, we will be joined by human resources and labour relations professionals who will discuss the types of negotiations they face in the course of their work, and how they handle these situations to achieve a desired outcome.

Class Schedule: Thursdays, 16:00 - 18:00

Sessional Lecturer I = $9457.90
Sessional Lecturer I - Long Term = $9930.79
Sessional Lecturer II = $10,121.77
Sessional Lecturer II - Long Term = $10,326.62
Sessional Lecturer III = $10,362.76
Sessional Lecturer III - Long Term = $10,570.02

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement should prevail.

Minimum Qualifications:
Completed PhD in Industrial Relations, Human Resources or related discipline\xcd\xbe or a combination of advanced degrees (e.g.MIRHR/MBA/LLB in applicable area) and equivalent professional background. Expert knowledge of subject area.

Preferred Qualifications:
Expert knowledge of subject area and demonstrated ability in university teaching. Previous experience in teaching a similar course is preferred.

Description of Duties: Prepare a course syllabus in accordance with departmental guidelines. Prepare and deliver lectures (12 two-hour classes); be available for office hours and informal communications with students. Assess and evaluate students\' work and provide final course grades in accordance with university and department practices.
