INVASIVE SPECIES PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Reporting To: Manager, Science
Location : Kamloops, BC
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday-Friday; some mornings, evenings, weekends, and travel)
Term: 12 weeks, June - August 2025

The Invasive Species Council of BC is seeking an Invasive Species Program Coordinator for new and rewarding challenges in an everchanging and collaborative atmosphere. The two primary components of this role include invasive species management work (survey, reporting, control, monitoring) and public engagement (coordination, outreach, and education).
The Invasive Species Council of BC is a provincial non-profit organization working to protect and restore resilient landscapes and habitats from the devastating impacts of invasive species. For more than 20 years, the Council has developed and delivered outreach, training and skill development programs while working closely with a network of partners, including the Indigenous Invasive Species Network, Local Government Invasive Species Network, and the Province of BC.
The funding for this role is designed to support the professional development of youth in the environmental field. You must be thirty (30) years of age or younger at the start of project.
The Invasive Species Program Coordinator will have the opportunity to:
Attend events hosted by public or private groups to share information about invasive species prevention, reporting, and management.
Coordinate and host experiential learning activities (community science, weed pulls, crafts, games, etc.) for a variety of age groups.
Work with key community groups: gardeners, outdoor clubs, homeowners, etc., to respond to requests for information on invasive species, including on how to observe and report, prevent, and manage invasive species.
Prepare communications including social media posts, articles, etc., on invasive species and opportunities for public engagement in invasive species learning activities.
Lead and/or contribute to the development of regional and provincial resources on invasive species.
Learn and gain an understanding of invasive species, including identification, reporting, and control.
Gain experience in using several mobile apps and online tools for real-time recording and reporting of invasive species data.
Support other Invasive Species Council of BC programming, such as youth activities, the annual Invasives Forum, etc.
Gain experience with project development, grant writing, and project management.
What will you bring to the team?
Post-secondary education in an environmental or education field.
Experience and/or comfort facilitating public engagement through information delivery and place-based learning opportunities.
Sound field-based skills and an interest in further developing these skills.
Knowledge of invasive species an asset, but not required.
Attention to detail and strong communication skills.
A positive attitude and an openness to participating in creative problem solving.
A Class 5 Driver's License (Drivers Abstract is required).
Experience driving and parking a trailer an asset, but not required.
Be legally entitled to work in Canada and BC; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee status in Canada.
