Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is seeking an Internal Senior Communications Specialist.

The Senior Communications Specialist is a subject matter expert and thought leader responsible for the delivery of impactful communications that inspire, engage, enable, and align employees and teams to succeed.

This is a permanent full-time role based in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. The primary language of work is English. Qualifications:

  • Education Required:
  • University degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field; OR
  • Advanced diploma in Public Relations plus an undergraduate degree; OR
  • Combination of relevant education and experience
  • Experience Required:
  • 3-5 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in public relations/communications/human resources
  • Experience in creative writing, project management, photography, and design
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, photo editing software (Photoshop, Lightroom, etc.), graphic design software (Canva, InDesign, etc.), and video editing software (iMovie, Premier Pro, etc.)
  • Experience working with a content management system is an asset
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Subject matter expert on strategy and tactics, deploying messages
  • Works with business leaders to develop communication plans and content to achieve divisional objectives
  • Develops and manages quality relationships
  • Understands each division\xe2\x80\x99s overall priorities and goals for the year and where internal comms support is required
  • Includes best comms strategy to support Leading Change and CI campaigns, especially those requiring behavioral change
  • Defines and manages content creation (inform, engage, inspire) and related schedule - right message, to the right audience at the right time via the right channel
  • Manages and improves the processes that govern Internal Comms channels and deliverables
  • Reports on progress, adapts based on feedback/metrics Responds and adjusts based on feedback from our employees and direct internal customers
  • Understands, defines and refines quality, quantity, engagement metrics for internal comms based on best practices
  • Defines and manages the overall calendar of divisional objectives - when deliverables must be scheduled, and outcomes achieved
  • Assesses time requirements for each divisional outcome/objective and the resources (internal and/or external) required
  • Collaborates with Comms Team and leaders to ensure consistency of internal and external messaging
