In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.


Reporting to the Manager, Internal Communications at BCEHS, the Internal Communications Officer is responsible for providing internal communications support for BCEHS. The Internal Communications Officer implements the comprehensive communication strategies for BCEHS internal and partner audiences. They will provide expertise and guidance to peers in writing, editing and web content generation and intranet strategy. The Internal Communications Officer will ensure communications and other forms of content are high quality, consistent and proactive, raising awareness about strategic corporative initiatives while maintaining strong and effective relationships with BCEHS staff and key partners.


What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do

  • Liaise with staff, other first responder organizations such as police and fire, representatives from other Health Authorities, and local municipalities to respond to requests for information, as well as to collaborate on joint initiatives and events.
  • Write, edit and produce diverse communications such as social and online media, internal responses and briefs, partner correspondence, intranet content, newsletters, brochures, displays, speeches and presentations. Must ensure overall quality, consistency and effectiveness of complex communication materials.
  • Co-ordinate the production and distribution of internal engagement products such as the BCEHS intranet, annual reports and educational materials.
  • Determine content in conjunction with the Manager, Internal Communications; Research, write articles, and work with others such as designers, photographers and printers.
  • Provide advice and guidance to leaders regarding internal communications to ensure accuracy of messages and materials; contribute to the development and content management of the BCEHS\xe2\x80\x99 intranet.
  • Liaise with partners, both internal and external, to develop a broad understanding of important issues, challenges and strategic directions and to foster open dialogue



What you bring


A level of education, training and experience equivalent to an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as Journalism, Public Relations or Communications, combined with at least five years of experience in a communications role.


Skills and Knowledge:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (verbal and written); solid journalistic business writing and the creation of compelling publications;
  • Proficiency in organizational electronic communication technology, desktop publishing and web-based technology practices would be beneficial.
  • The ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive issues with skill, tact and diplomacy is important as is excellent decision making skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Flexibility to reprioritize quickly to meet changing priorities.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products, Adobe Acrobat, database and web-based programs.
  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission\xe2\x80\x99s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Site Report (2020), BC\'s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls calls for justice, and how they intersect across the health care system.
  • Supports team members on their learning journey, ensuring education strategy for team/department to implement Indigenous Cultural Safety at a practical level.
  • Works collaboratively with appropriate Indigenous teams/departments to ensure ICS lens applied holistically.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC\'s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).



Job Type: Regular, FT
Wage: $86,398 - $124,197. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate\xe2\x80\x99s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan.
Location: 2955 Virtual Way, Vancouver, BC (or hybrid flexible)
