Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS-related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.

The Intern, Production Support provides cross-discipline support to the Production Control team in the Ship Construction stages of the Shipyard.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

What you\'ll do

  • Review engineering drawings and understand bill of materials for production planning.
  • Develop/Modify complete production work packages, including additional production information, material lists, and work instructions.
  • Update shop orders from the Production Control change backlog in accordance with run-rules
  • Investigate cross-discipline predecessor scope to enable work center readiness.
  • Identify shop orders and installation status.
  • Investigate holds/shortages in critical equipment and collaborate with PCT/supervisors.
  • Track physical and transactional production progress, including onboard the vessels.
  • Investigate causes of issues and delays in production; expedite activities to eliminate them.
  • Maintain data in ERP systems and document control platforms.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders (Engineering, Change Planning, Operations, CMDM)
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
What you\'ll bring
  • Enrolled in the 3rd or 4th year of a technical (Manufacturing/Industrial/Mechanical/Mechatronics/Electrical) engineering program.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience with ERP software tools and CAD software suite is preferred.
  • Understanding of manufacturing operations and inventory management
  • Ability to function as a team member and liaise effectively with various functions
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize and change direction when required

Seaspan\'s Internships are 4 months in duration. We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.
