Seaspan Ferries Corporation services the Vancouver Island supply chain with the most reliable customer focused commercial ferry service. For general freight products, consumer goods and regulated commodities and automobiles, Seaspan Ferries provides a daily, scheduled truck and trailer ferry service between our conveniently located terminals on the Mainland at Tilbury in Delta and Surrey, and on Vancouver Island at Duke Point Nanaimo, and Victoria (Swartz Bay). We need a forward-thinking enthusiastic person to participate in initiatives at Seaspan Ferries focused on leveraging existing and potential data to improve our business operations. To do so, the Operations Data Analyst must work with Terminal operations, Vessel operations, Commercial and Engineering departments to gather and analyze vast amounts of data from different sources. The operations analyst will work with the Business Analyst and act as a member of the operations team by supporting data-driven projects and internal reporting. They may be required to conduct research, investigate workflows and business procedures, and recommend changes to improve the company\'s efficiency.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 7700 Hopcott Rd, Delta.

What you\'ll do

  • Analyze data and processes to answer questions from stakeholders to find improvement opportunities and support business decision-making processes.
  • Develop reports, dashboards, and other analytical tools to leverage available data.
  • Apply appropriate analysis methods in the pursuit of operational excellence.
  • Develop and improve Predictive and Prescriptive Data Analytic tools based on business needs. Projects may include:
  • Demand Forecasting: daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly.
  • Trailer Flow: Terminal volume flow, daily expected hourly yard volumes, and trailer cycles on and off Vancouver Island.
  • Vessel Planning: Optimization of vessel deck space utilization.
What you\'ll bring
  • Enrollment in a Bachelor\'s degree program in statistics, mathematics, business, computer science, data analytics, operations management, or related field.
  • Field of study in applied mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, operations/business research, supply chain optimization, data analytics, machine learning, or related fields.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to pull and analyze data from various data sources using a variety of data analytics and data visualization tools.
  • Ability to use detailed analytics (descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive) techniques/technology to resolve business problems.
  • Good understanding of data warehouse/data-mart architecture.
  • Ability to build simulation and optimization tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
  • Experience with SQL, Python, and/or R would be beneficial.
  • Ability to prioritize and implement tasks to meet expectations.
  • Ability to critically evaluate current operations to find opportunities for improvement.
  • Passion for operational excellence and business enablement.
  • Ability to deliver work products that provide measurable business benefits.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Desire to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Business knowledge in Marine transportation and logistics is not necessary but would be beneficial.

Seaspan\'s Internships are 4 months in duration. We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.
