Intern, HR

An 8-month internship opportunity (with the possibility to extend to 1 year) starting January 2023 for a current post-secondary student. Reporting to the HR Business Partner, the Intern, HR will support Newmont's North America Regional HR team. This is a great opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge on general human resources activities at a global company.

In addition to supporting day-to-day general HR responsibilities, the Intern, HR will also be in contributing to the delivery of HR programs and processes. Exact projects will be established according to skills, experience, and specific business needs.

This is a full-time paid position (37.5 hours/week). The exact start and end dates of this opportunity are flexible depending on the candidate's availability and our business needs.

Essential Duties

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Assist with the onboarding process including interacting directly with new hires to conduct first-day HR and Benefits orientations, collecting new hire documentation and liaising with payroll and data management functions to ensure employee records are accurate
  • Support employee experience by completing check-ins with new hires and liaising with HRBP to address any questions
  • Assist with workforce changes including developing offer letters and liaising with payroll to transact employment updates
  • Liaise with employees as well as the HR Service Center to address various employee inquiries in a timely manner
  • Develop and maintain templates for various human resources documents including onboarding/offboarding materials, policies, and reports
  • Update communication materials and intranet libraries as needed to ensure most up to date resources are available for employee reference
  • Prepare various human resource documents such as employment confirmation letters
  • Compile headcount reports and other ad hoc HR reports
  • Process and reconcile invoices as needed
  • Enable employee engagement to support execution of various events including volunteering and fundraising activities
  • Assist with compiling and updating policies by conducting research on regulations and best practices
  • Support facilities management as required
  • Support ad-hoc HR projects as required
Training & Experience
  • Current enrolment in a post-secondary program with a focus on Human Resources, Business, or other related discipline.
  • Prior internship experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PPT and Outlook)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfort engaging with senior leaders and global teams
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team
  • Strong planning skills with an ability to juggle multiple projects
  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail and dedication to delivering high quality work on time
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and confidentiality
  • Strong research methods and capability and writing skills
  • Authorized to legally work full-time in Canada
