As our Communications intern you will become a part of this team and receive hands-on experience that will give you a solid portfolio of real work experience to position you for a job in the Communications/ Public Relations field. Description: The Communications and Public Affairs department is responsible for reputation management, internal and external communications, branding, media relations, digital media, government and stakeholder relations and community engagement. The department also supports the hospital\xe2\x80\x99s three foundations with their communications. The Communications intern is an integral part of the Communications and Public Affairs team, contributing to Unity Health Toronto\xe2\x80\x99s local, national and international reputation as a progressive leader in the treatment of critical care, serious illnesses, community health, rehab and complex continuing care, and research and education that impact patient care.
Position overview:
We are looking for enthusiastic self-starters ready to perform work of value. The ideal candidate is someone who is skilled in working with various stakeholders, balancing multiple projects, and excelling in a deadline-driven, team-oriented environment. Key responsibilities include:
  • Corporate communications: Work with senior communications advisors and managers to develop internal and external communications plans, and participate in communications planning for events such as government announcements.
  • Editorial content development: Research and write news articles and stories for the web and internal newsletter, develop social media content in partnership with senior communications advisors and advisors, plan and execute campaigns for health promotion days/weeks/months.
  • Other communications responsibilities: Provide a full range of communications support as required including but not limited to identifying and helping to coordinate media relations, and event planning as assigned. Desired skills and qualifications:
    • A completed undergraduate degree and/or pursuing postgraduate studies in journalism or public relations
    • Results oriented, self-directed, outstanding organization and time management skills
    • High energy, flexibility and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
    • Strong writing and storytelling skills
    • Excellent verbal communications skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
    • Familiarity with Canadian Press style

    Projects may include:

    Internal/External Communications
    • Assisting in development and rollout of corporate/program communication initiatives
    • Writing for the intranet or employee newsletter
    • Writing for the website and social media platforms
    Digital Media
    • Assist in developing content for the hospital\xe2\x80\x99s social and digital media channels
    Events
    • Provide support on department-led special events and related communication tasks
