Intermediate/senior Aquatic Biologist (mid Senior Level)

Job Description


ERM is seeking a high-performing, enthusiastic Intermediate/Senior Aquatic Biologist to become a member of our Integrated Water Management team in Canada. The successful candidate will interact within a multidisciplinary community of biologists, toxicologists, geochemists, hydrologists, and hydrogeologists (among other disciplines) and will become a member of an extensive team of global environmental and social experts.

This role is largely technical and requires a strong understanding of aquatic ecology, specifically how to quantitatively evaluate changes in water and sediment chemistry and determine potential effects to aquatic life. This opportunity offers the chance to grow one\'s career by directly interacting with clients and regulators, acting as the Discipline Manager on interesting projects, and mentoring junior staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and lead baseline and environmental effects monitoring programs with a focus on water quality, sediment quality, and aquatic biology.
  • Lead provincial, territorial, and federal environmental assessments in water-related subject matter.
  • Become client- and regulator-facing subject matter expert within the aquatics team.
  • Support Discipline Manager with senior-level tasks and mentor junior staff.
  • Bring novel approaches to common problems to satisfy client and regulator expectations.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Masters level (with additional work experience) in an Aquatic Biology or similar discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience organizing, managing, and executing freshwater and/or marine aquatics field programs and experience with environmental effects monitoring (AEMPs, MMER/EEM) in Canadian jurisdictions.
  • Prior experience in environmental consulting or government in mining and/or energy sectors.
  • Strong data manipulation, graphing and multivariate statistical skills using the open source program R or similar.
  • Expertise with Federal, Provincial and Territorial permitting, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Strong water chemistry background.
  • Field experience sampling water, sediments, and aquatic biology, and sampling under ice.
  • Marine experience is considered beneficial.
  • Positive attitude; excellent writing, communication, and time management skills; problem solver who enjoys working independently.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health & Safety protocols.
  • Valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and good driving record.
  • Bilingual in English and French/Spanish is an asset.
