Job Description


We are seeking an experienced and technically-oriented intermediate wildlife biologist with consulting experience to support the development and implementation of follow-up monitoring studies associated with a major infrastructure project in BC. This individual should have a background in implementing scientifically rigorous studies, be an excellent writer, be able to work effectively in a team environment.

About the role

You have strong interpersonal skills, are knowledgeable of the scientific method, and have experience working collaboratively on interdisciplinary teams, implementing monitoring programs, summarizing data and interpreting results, and writing technical reports. You are committed to delivering high-quality work to Ausenco\xe2\x80\x99s existing clients, as well as pursuing new opportunities. A background in coastal ecology, shorebirds, or other waterbirds and experience in designing/implementing monitoring programs within a Before-After-Control-Impact (BACI) framework are assets.

Your Responsibilities

In your role, you will have the opportunity to take on a wide variety of tasks. Some examples include:

  • Working under the direction of senior staff to assist in the design and implementation of wildlife monitoring programs in support of permitting new projects or verifying effects assessment predictions of existing projects.
  • Assisting in the development of scopes of work and budgets for proposals.
  • Summarizing / analyzing data
  • Writing technical reports
  • Being a champion for safety and quality.
Qualifications

You are solutions-oriented and have the following skills:
  • A university degree in biology or a related field.
  • A professional designation (e.g., R.P.Bio or P.Biol.) or eligibility for a designation.
  • 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience conducting scientifically rigorous wildlife programs
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • An understanding of ecological methods and statistics and demonstrated experience interpreting data/results.
  • Ability to think independently and strategically, maintain a positive attitude, be self-motivated and employ a strong work initiative.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.
  • Available to travel as required and sometimes on short notice for projects and other engagements.
  • Excellent communication skills, to communicate technical information to key staff including project managers and clients.

The following attributes may give you a competitive edge:
  • A master\'s degree in a relevant field
  • Expertise in visual and auditory identification of waterbirds (shorebirds, waterfowl, sea ducks).
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation gained through formal studies or practical experience.
  • Experience in analyzing complex datasets using R software package.
  • Experience in designing rigorous monitoring studies.
