Job Summary The Intermediate Telecommunications Technologist will work with the engineering and design teams to create electronic (CAD) working plans, technical drawings, and documents for various residential, commercial and industrial projects. Reporting to the VP, Greater Capital Region Land Development, this individual will prepare engineering sketches and design calculations for wired and wireless voice and data networking and communications devices and systems.
Education & Qualifications
  • Electrical, Computer or Electronics Engineering Technology Diploma from a recognized technical institution, or equivalent.
  • TT or CET designation, or eligible for registration with ASET.
  • 5+ years of design experience in telecommunications networks, devices and systems.
  • Experience with the development of single line diagrams, schematics, fiber wiring diagrams, electrical layouts, cable schedules, cable pull analysis, decibel loss calculations, and other key design documents.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, AGI32, SpidaCalc, PLS CAD software is considered an asset.
  • Understanding of Canadian Electrical Code, CSA Underground and Overhead Standards, Alberta Electrical Utility Code, and other applicable industry guidelines and standards.
  • First aid and CPR certification would be considered an asset.
  • Valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s licence with no at fault accidents.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers in the preparation of engineering sketches, work packages and design calculations.
  • Review, interpret and implement utility and CEC specifications.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and electrical specifications.
  • Utilize knowledge of design standards and procedures when completing drawings and deliverables to client and industry specifications and regulations.
  • Design, install, manage and maintain wired and wireless telecommunication networks (LANs and WANs) and fibre-optic communication networks.
  • Develop solutions to technical problems such as network design and security and mobile communications.
  • Maintain software upgrades and hardware expansions for telecommunications and information processing networks.
  • Review technical content of drawings and calculations completed by other team members.
  • Maintain project records and documents.
  • Collaborate with the project team in designing the structure, operation, protection and control of communications networks, devices and systems.
  • Collaborate with the project team in delivering high quality client service and engage with clients as needed to deliver top quality solutions.
  • Collaborate with senior designers and engineers for support and development on more challenging tasks.
  • Support and mentor more junior team members.
  • Ensure all safety procedures and processes are followed with the goal of zero injury.
  • Work safely and follow all rules and procedures including attending and participating in safety meetings and completing all required safety orientation and training.
  • Travel to client sites for project scoping, verification, construction support and meeting with clients as needed.
  • Completion of other relevant duties as required.

Position Conditions
  • Job is performed in an office environment but site travel (up to 20%) may be required depending on the project.
