This is a full-time on-site role for an Intermediate or Senior Mechanical Design Engineer located in Kitchener, ON. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing automated manufacturing equipment and systems. The day-to-day tasks include engineering, machine design, creating and maintaining 3d models, 2d drawing, and BOM's using Solid
Major Duties
Plan, organize and complete all aspects of mechanical designs from concept to completion for specific projects. Assign and follow up with design tasks to junior and intermediate designers.
Specific Responsibilities
Assist in developing design and department standards.
Assist in implementing or achieving corporate objectives (i.e. new developments, policies, etc.).
Help lead the mechanical design effort on various projects delegating tasks to Junior & Intermediate team members.
Organize documentation, including quotes, drawing registers, correspondence, requisitions, drawings, schedules, etc. on projects you are supervising.
Review electrical requirements with respect to input and output devises with electrical designers.
Review machine operations and machine sequences with programmers.
Assist the fabricators, machinists, toolmakers and electricians in the debug, integration resolving problems and completion of systems.
Perform engineering calculations with respect to strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, force, etc. as related to machine and tool designs.
Analyze engineering drawings, and specifications to determine shape, dimensions, hardness etc. in the development of equipment, processes, and products.
Complete designs tasks as assigned by design lead and/or design manager.
Draft working drawings, detail drawings and bills of materials for equipment, sub-assemblies, or product, using Solid Works.
Determine tools, fixtures, and equipment to be used in fabrication and assembly of mechanical components and complete assemblies.
Examine project instructions and drawings to determine test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment and problems involved in designing, changing, or re-arranging materials.
Review drawings for accuracy, material selection, proper machining techniques, finishes, hardness, etc.
Liaison with vendors and customers for technical information and specifications.
Adhere to all CMP Health and Safety rules and procedures.
Follow health, safety, and environmental procedures, including reporting unsafe conditions and incidents.
Ensure the use of required protective equipment and attend all necessary training.
Qualifications
Education
A post-secondary diploma or degree in mechanical design, mechanical engineering or equivalent.
Experience
A minimum of 5 years of mechanical design experience in custom automation.
Skills
A working knowledge of common machine shop techniques.
Must have a thorough knowledge of drafting principles.
Must be proficient in AutoCAD and Solid Works.
Must be capable of designing tooling from sketches or verbal concepts.
Must be capable of working as part of a team.
A thorough knowledge of the use of pneumatics
A thorough knowledge of the use of electrical devices (i.e. switches, load cells, LVDT's, etc.).
Must be capable of giving and taking direction.
