Intermediate Mine Planner

Purpose

Reporting directly to the Engineering Supervisor, the Intermediate Mine Planner will be critical in providing leadership to the Mine Planning Team who provides detailed designs of stoping areas, development headings, and mine services. The Intermediate Mine Planner will also be responsible for reviewing short term deliverables including blasting, clearing and drilling packages, and in creating design concepts that guide the decision making of the mine planning and scheduling teams. The Intermediate Mine Planner will work closely with the mine department and senior engineering leadership to ensure practicality of designs and the scheduling team to ensure deliverables are completed on schedule.

Responsibilities

Produce and review development and stope drill and blast designs following engineering best practices and standards

Review daily mine deliverables including but not limited to blasting, gas clearing and drilling packages

Create production and development mine design concepts and host conceptual meetings to receive design feedback from the operations and senior engineering teams

Train and coach the mine planning team as they produce their daily deliverables and track and analyze CMS data with regards to stope dilution and recovery to make recommendations for improvements to designs

Liaise with Ventilation Technicians and/or Rock Mechanics to optimize ventilation, ground support requirements and stope sizing/sequencing

Requirements

  • B.Sc. degree or Mining Technology diploma in Mining Engineering.
  • 2 - 5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, listening).
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Ability to positively interact with co-workers and team members with a diverse mix of cultures.
  • Proficiency with mine planning computer software (Deswik and Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Willingness and capability to work in and adapt to a fast-paced and high-pressure, safe production oriented setting.
Working Conditions

The work schedule for this position is 14 on, 14 days off, working 12-hour days.
