Responsibilities:
The successful individual will have the opportunity to be a part of the team by being an asset in helping to achieve Mainstay's business goals and objectives. Intermediate Structural Engineer will drive business development in the structural space, work with integrity, and demonstrate effective and efficient organizational skills. Reporting to the Team Lead, you are responsible for communicating directly with clients and customers to establish service requirements and provide solid design solutions and alternatives that meet client needs. This role will actively contribute to projects and support the Engineer Manager, Engineer Lead and Project Managers within their department. Providing designs, proposals and engineering deliverables.
Your Key Responsibilities
Perform complex calculations and design notes using Mathcad and/or Excel.
Familiar with AutoCAD, Inventor and Navisworks
Familiar with durability of structures and chemical failure mechanisms such as corrosion.
Ability to complete designs of shallow and deep foundations for buildings and machinery equipment.
Ability to complete designs of steel connections, platforms, lifting plans, and monorails.
Familiar with hoopers, conveyors, bins and piping equipment.
Complete structural reviews of existing buildings/structures
Complete written condition/inspections reports
Completion of engineering design assignments using different materials (i.e., reinforced concrete, steel, masonry, timber), and structural behaviour.
Completion of complex engineering design projects in conjunction with senior engineers
Use of a variety of Canadian standards, engineering principles and techniques to solve engineering problems
Office review of structural engineering shop drawings and calculations
Field review of structural related construction (e.g. reinforced concrete, steel, masonry, timber)
Application of design software (i.e. SAP2000) for structural design in conjunction with senior engineers
Recommend technological improvements to the department
Assist other engineers in carrying out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data and adherence to prescribed testing analysis, design or computation methods
Providing guidance to junior and student engineers or technicians as required
Participate in project meetings between engineering, project management, and client.
Understand and apply all applicable industry and client standards/specifications for design and engineering
Being open to receiving advice and guidance from senior engineers.
Qualifications:
Proficiency with AutoCAD, Mathcad, Excel, and SAP2000.
Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement
Effective Interpersonal Skills - Strong Written and Verbal skills are a must, to ensure clear communication between team members, clients, contractors, and suppliers
Able to work effectively both independently under minimal supervision, and as a member of a team
Strong customer service focus supported by solid time management and prioritization skills
Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to complete work within given timelines
Systematic approach to problem solving
Demonstrated negotiating skills
Excellent Personal Computing Skills, including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
Valid Driver's License
Ability to adapt to various environments and situations
Willing to travel occasionally
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in civil/Structural Engineering with P.Eng designation in the Province of Saskatchewan.
Minimum 5 years' experience in consulting engineering environment managing new structural project and restoration projects
