NWI is looking for an intermediate-level Character Artist who will help with the development of characters for our games. As part of your duties, you will collaborate with the art and design teams to create cutting-edge, high-quality character assets, sharing your knowledge and experience with the team as we build the next generation of games for our studio. This is a full-time, permanent position within the Character Team where you can focus on what you love. We're a remote-first studio hiring within Canada.


Responsibilities:
  • Working with Art and Design leads to create appealing characters that fit within our technical requirements.
  • Help to develop workflows that fit the department's needs.
  • Manage your own timelines, progress and deadlines.
  • Work closely with the Technical Art department to ensure that high levels of both quality and performance are achieved.
  • Be part of reviewing in-house and outsourced character art.
  • Contribute to the research and development of best practices in-line with the latest technological developments.
Qualifications:
  • At least 2 years of experience creating characters for video games.
  • At least 1 game shipped as a Character Artist
  • Strong knowledge of human anatomy (form, shape, and silhouette) with a good eye for detail.
  • Proficiency in UE4/5, with an ability to create believable materials for skin, cloth, eyes, hair, etc.
  • Ability to understand and learn technical and creative concepts.
  • Good understanding of topological flow for better deformation.
  • A solid grasp of the technical constraints that come with developing characters for games.
  • Self-motivated to stay up-to-date with advances in game industry technology.
  • Organic and hard-surface modelling/sculpting skills.

  • Unreal Engine 4/5
  • Traditional art skills like drawing, painting, and sculpting are a plus
