Job Summary



Our Delta, BC location of Zodiac Hurricane Technologies has an immediate opening for Intermediate Buyer in our Purchasing Department. This position is permanent, full-time, working Monday through Friday starting at 7 am.

The Intermediate Buyer is responsible for executing day-to-day procurement activities to ensure materials and components are ordered, tracked, and received on time to support production schedules. This role is tactical rather than strategic sourcing, focusing on ERP/MRP-driven purchasing, supplier follow-ups, and coordination with engineering and production teams to avoid material shortages or delays.

The ideal candidate is computer-savvy, highly organized, and experienced in working with ERP/MRP systems. Strong Excel and logical problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role. The candidate should grasp the fundamental logic behind ERP workflows, including BOM hierarchy, lead time calculations, and procurement cost structures.

Attention to detail, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to make data-driven decisions are essential for success in this position. The ideal candidate will contribute to cost savings, quality improvement, and timely delivery of products, supporting the overall goals of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities



Purchase Order Management



Review MRP-generated demand and issue purchase orders (POs) to approved suppliers. Ensure timely and accurate PO processing in the ERP system. Track open POs and follow up with suppliers to confirm delivery dates and lead times. Monitor supplier performance to ensure on-time deliveries and flag delays to management. Maintain accurate purchasing records, including order confirmations and receipts.

ERP/MRP System Utilization



Work within ERP/MRP systems to ensure procurement aligns with production schedules. Monitor material shortages, excess stock, and system-generated purchasing recommendations. Ensure data integrity by keeping lead times, pricing, and supplier information up to date. Generate and analyze procurement reports to support decision-making.

Collaboration with Engineering & Production



Coordinate with engineering teams on material requirements for engineering change requests (ECRs). Work closely with production teams to address missing or delayed parts. Assist in resolving purchase order discrepancies, invoice mismatches, and quality issues. Support the kitting process by ensuring all required materials are available on time.

Inventory & Supplier Follow-Ups



Track inventory levels for critical components and flag potential shortages. Proactively follow up with suppliers on pending deliveries, backorders, and schedule changes. Work with warehousing/stores teams to ensure smooth material flow from receiving to production.

Reporting & Process Improvement



Generate weekly procurement reports on open POs, supplier delivery status, and inventory risks. Monitor key procurement KPIs (on-time PO release, supplier lead time adherence, inventory accuracy). Support process improvements by identifying bottlenecks and inefficiencies in the purchasing cycle.

Qualifications:



Technical Skills:



ERP/MRP experience - Hands-on experience with procurement modules in ERP systems (e.g. Infor M3) Excel & data analysis - Intermediate level skills in Excel (pivot tables, basic macros preferred). Understanding of purchasing principles - Experience in tactical buying, purchase order execution, and supplier coordination. Manufacturing knowledge - Familiarity with Bill of Materials (BOMs), engineering change requests, and production planning.

Soft Skills:



Highly organized & detail-oriented - Ability to manage multiple POs, supplier follow-ups, and ERP updates efficiently. Problem-solving mindset - Ability to troubleshoot supply chain disruptions and recommend quick solutions. Strong communication & collaboration - Ability to interact effectively with suppliers, engineers, production teams, and finance. Time management skills - Ability to prioritize urgent orders while maintaining overall procurement flow.

Education & Experience



Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience in procurement roles).*
Minimum 2-3 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain in a manufacturing environment. Hands-on ERP/MRP experience is a must. Previous experience in a manufacturing or production setting is preferred. An interest in boats and marine manufacturing is a plus!
