Green Plan is seeking a talented, highly motivated, and enthusiastic Junior or Intermediate-level Biologist to join our well-established team of environmental professionals. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and participating in a variety of biophysical programs, with a strong emphasis on the Aquatics discipline. This includes programs such as fish and fish habitat assessments, fish health programs, lower trophic studies, fish relocation programs, and environmental monitoring. Office-based tasks will include technical report writing, regulatory permitting, client liaison, and providing support with business development tasks.Green Plan is an innovative and award-winning Edmonton-based environmental consulting firm, specializing in environmental and regulatory planning for a variety of land development projects. Key responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage technical environmental scopes and regulatory permitting tasks for projects such as culverts/bridges, intakes, outfalls, habitat restoration, aggregate operations, water pipelines, and transportation projects.
  • Participate in a variety of field programs, including fish sampling, habitat assessments, lower trophic studies, fish health and tissue chemistry, movement and spawning surveys, water quality, and sediment sampling.
  • Contribute to written content as lead author or quality/peer review. This includes preparation of QAES reports, environmental evaluations, aquatic assessments, regulatory applications, ECO Plans, water management plans, and other types of deliverables.
  • Conduct and coordinate field surveys, including the collection, maintenance, and analysis of ecological data.
  • Support construction-related activities including fish rescues, turbidity monitoring and general environmental monitoring.
  • Develop and implement creative solutions to complex environmental challenges.
  • Interpret and apply provincial and federal legislation (Water Act, Fisheries Act, Public Lands Act, Canadian Navigable Waters Act) to projects, ensuring compliance and helping clients understand the regulatory requirements pertaining to their projects.
  • Be a team player and be open to assisting other staff with their project needs as they arise.
Qualifications and capabilities:
  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in biology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience within the environmental industry, with a preference for individuals with experience in the fisheries and aquatics disciplines.
  • Experience in Wetland Classification and Biophysical Assessments considered an asset.
  • Experience and understanding of key provincial and federal legislation (e.g., the provincial Codes of Practice, Water Act, Fisheries Act)
  • Experience with technical writing, completion of deliverables, and project management.
  • Strong client-facing skills with the ability to communicate effectively and build/maintain relationships.
  • Proficiency with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to develop innovative solutions.
  • Existing membership or eligibility to become a member in good standing with the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists (ASPB) or College of Applied Biologists (CAB).
  • Proficient in remote field settings with the ability to lift heavy sampling equipment and work long hours when needed.
  • Has the ability to work remotely and is driven to progress as an environmental professional.
  • Possess a valid Alberta driver's licence.
