JOB SUMMARY:

The SuperTrak group delivers innovative products to the automation industry. We are looking for an Intermediate Automation Designer - Mechanical with the following skills:
  • Strong problem solving ability and tenacity to find root cause of issues
  • Ability and interest to learn through independent research and consulting senior designers
  • Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects and responsibilities
  • Able to independently complete all specific responsibilities with minimal supervision
  • High attention to detail and accuracy and a sense of ownership of designs from beginning to end
  • Capable of giving and taking direction and working as part of a team
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine shape, dimensions, tolerances, hardness etc. in the development of equipment, processes and products.
  • Produce and revise models, detail drawings and BOM\xe2\x80\x99s of components and assemblies using SolidWorks.
  • Develop familiarity with all current products and products in development and understand their context at the component, assembly and system level.
  • Identify and weigh consequences of design choices as they relate to cost, manufacturability, ease of assembly, aesthetics, functional and serviceability. Involve relevant stakeholders in decision making.
  • As required, design of production fixtures and equipment, show cells, experiments, test cells.
  • Review drawings for accuracy, material selection, proper machining techniques, finishes, hardness, etc.
  • Liaise with in-house technical and engineering staff, customers and vendors.
  • Organize documentation on projects you are assigned to.
  • Select appropriate purchased components for mechanical assemblies
  • As needed, produce renders and presentations.
  • Create technical documentation in collaboration with technical writer
  • Follow, improve and develop processes and systems.
  • Exercise good judgement in decision making.
  • Periodically oversees co-op students and Junior Designers on various projects.
  • Manage new designs, revisions, BOMs and requisitions using PLM software.
  • Adhere to all ISO procedures pertaining to the job responsibilities.
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.


Additional Information


QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
  • A post secondary diploma or degree in mechanical design, mechanical engineering or equivalent.

Skills and Experience:
  • A minimum of 3 years of mechanical design experience.
  • Well-rounded understanding of common machine shop techniques, and manufacturing processes.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of drafting principles.
  • Must be proficient in Solid Works and MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Ability to learn new software as required
  • Assets: Design for manufacture, Lean manufacturing, GD&T, experience using PLM/PDM software, VA/VE
