Position Details: Full-time, Permanent, New Position
Salary Range: $66,100 - $82,600 based on a 35-hour work week.
Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba xe2x80x93 (candidate will be required to work from our Head Office at Oak Hammock Marsh near Stonewall, MB approx. 2-3 days/week)

Together, we conserve and restore some of the most valuable and threatened landscapes on the planet.What You Will DoThe Intermediate Accountant provides a wide variety of analysis and reporting to support Conservation Leadership, Management, National and Regional Conservation business units in the delivery of their programs, administration of funding, with a specific emphasis on project execution and project funding.The Intermediate Accountant provides a wide variety of analysis and reporting to support Finance Leadership to assess program deliver, funding, and financial sustainability of operations. This position is responsible for the financial accounting of Consolidated and assigned National Budget Centres and supports the tracking and reporting of major funding partnerships allocated across various business units. This position also ensures that financial processes and internal controls are documented, understood, and followed.The Intermediate Accountant reports to the Conservation Controller, but works closely with the Assistant Conservation Controller, Manager of Finance xe2x80x93 Conservation Partnerships, as well as provides mentorship and guidance to finance and administration staff across DUC.Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in preparing, implementing and monitoring the Annual Financial Plan, quarterly projections and reporting with variance explanations for consolidated and assigned Budget Centres.
  • Ensure the timely, accurate and effective entry of information in the financial systems (such as grants invoicing, contracts, timesheets, travel expenses, journal entries, accruals and projections) for assigned Budget Centres.
  • Perform year-end procedures and assist in year-end external audit.
  • Work with leadership, management, national and regional conservations operations business units to collect, analyze and compile information related to conservation programs and funding for Consolidated and assigned Budget Centres xe2x80x93 in terms of both financial and acre delivery.
  • Work within a variety of systems to find details, complete analysis and present to others based on the financial knowledge level of the user.
  • Work with Finance Leads and operations budget centre owners and management to develop analysis and reporting to meet business needs.
  • Preparation and maintenance of process documentation and training materials to support efficient and effective operation of the accounting function across all business units related to project funding, project execution and others as assigned.
  • Design new processes to maximize efficiencies, data quality and controls as related to project execution, project funding or as assigned.
  • Ensure finance policy and procedures and system approval processes are adhered to. Monitor for compliance of deadlines, including expense management delinquency.
  • Assist with consolidated and national budget booklets.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 5 years of practical and analytical experience in financial accounting supporting operational units.
  • Post-secondary education in Finance, Accounting or Business.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or working towards a Canadian CPA designation having completed preparatory courses and currently enrolled in the Canadian CPA Professional Education Program (PEP).
  • Operational understanding and demonstrated experience working with accounting standards, accounting principles and adhering to policies. Knowledge of and experience in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience developing and monitoring financial processes and internal controls/financial systems, and interpreting and applying policies, statutes and legislation, and/or conducting audits and reviews to assess compliance, make recommendations and improve existing processes.
  • Experience with financial and project accounting in a complex operational environment including planning, budgeting, forecasting and expenditure control, and/or providing quantitative/qualitative analysis in a complex environment and making sound recommendations to support decision making.
  • In-depth experience and expertise applying accounting treatments, performing research, advice and evaluating the treatment for complex transactions to ensure a consistent application in accordance with accounting guidelines.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities with conflicting deadlines.
  • Ability to discuss technical accounting and finance details with operations staff.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office 365, with emphasis on Excel.
  • Must be detail oriented individual with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Previous experience working in a non-profit or conservation organization is an asset.
  • Dynamics 365/Power BI/Salesforce, experience is an asset.
