Job Description

AltaSteel is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Intermediate Accountant to join our finance team. This role ensures accurate recording, analysis, and reporting of financial transactions to support operational efficiency and financial integrity across the organization. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, and variance analysis.

Responsibilities:

Record and classify financial transactions in accordance with accounting standards and internal policies. Prepare and analyze financial statements and reports to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement. Prepare general ledger posting and ensure accuracy across accounts. Perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner. Process accounts payable transactions, ensuring timely and accurate vendor payments. Support month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals, reconciliations, and journal entries. Perform variance analysis and support business units in understanding financial performance. Collaborate with departments such as operations, supply chain, and procurement to align financial reporting with business activities. Maintain documentation and support internal/external audits as needed.

Qualifications and Skills:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 1-3 years of experience in a financial accounting and analysis role. Experience with AP/AR would be considered an asset. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; ERP system experience required (Dynamics is an asset). Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Strong verbal and written communication abilities. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in manufacturing environments is considered an asset.
