Interim Executive Director of the Halifax Humanities Society
The Halifax Humanities Society invites applications for the position of Interim Executive Director of the Halifax Humanities Society. This is a limited term position from October 1, 2025 to February 14, 2027.
Duties include overseeing the delivery and support of the programs of the Halifax Humanities Society. The Interim Director's primary responsibility is ensuring the vitality of Halifax Humanities 101 (HH 101), an eight-month course of study of primary texts in the Western tradition. The participants in HH 101 are predominantly people who share a passion for education and life-long learning, but face systemic barriers and challenges to participation in traditional university education. As well, the Interim Director supports other initiatives of the Society including the Angus Johnston Seminar for graduates of HH 101, the Humanities Today Lecture Series and Halifax Thinks, a fundraising educational initiative. The Interim Director will maintain and develop relations with partner and supporting organizations such as Halifax North Memorial Public Library, St. George's Round Church, the metro universities, and various community groups. The Interim Director's duties include fundraising initiatives, publicity, office management and other duties as directed by the Board.
The successful candidate will have a university degree or equivalent experience. Experience in some aspect of university-level education or a background in the humanities, especially in the history and development of western culture are significant assets. Background in fundraising, community relations, not-for profit work, communications, and office management are all assets.
The Halifax Humanities Society encourages and welcomes applications from those who would contribute to the diversification of our program including, but not limited to women, Indigenous persons, racialized persons, persons with disabilities, visible minorities and persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity.
