of Intensive Case Manager



The Intensive Case Manager is a full-time position and is responsible and accountable to the Senior Manager of Supportive Housing of the Elizabeth Fry Society MNS. The ICM will provide support and services to women and gender diverse individuals who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless and promote client transition from incarceration/community shelters to housing, as well as eviction prevention. The Intensive Case Manager will be responsible for the Housing and Homelessness Department management and operations.

Position Scope: The Intensive Case Manager is expected to function within the philosophy and principles, rules of work, policies and procedures of the Elizabeth Fry Society of Mainland Nova Scotia. The Intensive Case Manager may be required to take ongoing professional development and training to ensure the necessary skills, knowledge and capacities are maintained and developed.

Job Specific Requirements



? Engage with clients using a harm reduction and housing first approach

? Understanding of Residential Tenancies Act and roles and responsibilities of all parties

? Understanding of Child, Youth and Family Services Act and roles and responsibilities of all parties

? Understanding of the structure and organization of the Department of Community Services and applicable legislation and policies (Employment Support and Income Assistance)

? Strong knowledge of the impact of poverty and homelessness and affordable housing

? Above average interpersonal skills

? Strong advocacy skills

? Where possible, identify risk factors or potential problems, and intervene before they become a crisis

? Provide crisis de-escalation where necessary

? Complete case notes and required paperwork as applicable

? Maintain data for reporting purposes and maintain data in HIFIS where available

? Maintain departmental budget

? Support the housing support worker and property management coordinator as needed

? Able to work effectively in a fast pace and constantly changing environment, with multiple interruptions and competing demands.

Maintaining Adherence to Policies, Procedures and Health and Safety



? Follow policies, procedures and uphold organizational standards

? Be familiar with and be able to implement the emergency evacuation plan

? Make appropriate decisions and take appropriate action in times of crisis

? Ensure the office is clean, tidy and in a well-kept condition

On-going Professional Development

? Participate in on-going staff training and development.

? Participate in performance appraisals and self-reporting requirements

? Adopt and maintain a women centered, non-discriminatory, anti-racist, culturally competent approach

Qualifications

? Post-secondary education in social sciences/human services or 5 years equivalent training/experience working with criminalized women and girls in a program setting

? Employment screening that includes vulnerable sector, child abuse, and criminal record checks

? Knowledge of community based organizations and resources for the support of women and gender diverse individuals

? Knowledge of the barriers women and gender diverse individuals face in finding safe, affordable housing

? Experience in data and evaluation

? Certificate in first aid/CPR required

? Valid driver's license

? Have regular and reliable access to transportation

? Ability to work as a member of a team and to supervise volunteers
