Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS) is currently seeking a qualified Full-Time Permanent Intake/Transition Youth Worker, to provide support at the Youth Support Centre(YSC).
What We Do
YESS is a not-for-profit agency working with youth facing difficult realities. Based in Edmonton, our Youth Support Centre provides immediate and low-barrier 24/7 sleep support and individualized wrap-around supports for young people aged 15 - 24.
We work collaboratively within a network of care focused on the prevention of youth homelessness by providing youth with the necessary supports to stabilize their housing, improve their wellbeing, build life skills, connect with community, and avoid re-entry into homelessness.
What You Will Do
The Intake/ Transition Youth Worker will be responsible for ensuring all youth who access crisis shelter services have a secure and caring experience. They will support the youth by providing the highest quality of care with a trauma-informed lens and role model socially and professionally acceptable behaviors. They will be responsible for assessing and triaging youth on their capacity and skills while collaborating with other departments and partners to create a safety planning for the youth. Our 16 - bed shelter provides a safe, secure, and immediate place to stay for youth 15 - 21 years of age. The shelter provides beds for sleeping, basic needs like food, clothing, showers and laundry, school supplies, and packed lunches if youth are attending school or going to work.
The shift schedule is:
4 days on 4 days off
Hours: 7:00am - 5:00pm

Responsibilities include:
Provide consistent, predictable and transparent intake process for youth
Assess the risk and vulnerability of the individual and respond with appropriate risk management strategies
Conduct intake tours and explain program and expectations to new clients
Building a relationship with youth, community resources and family connections
Create positive interactions to enhance social skills, recreational opportunities and connection to the community for youth
Provide accurate referrals and demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of community resources as well as the programming available through YESS internally and externally
Collaborate with other departments and partners to create holistic life skills planning for youth
Develop and assess transition pathways for youth; walking beside youth as they transition out of care
Maintaining documentation records and entering information into a database
Performing clerical duties to maintain youth support, youth goal setting and team communication.
Manage crisis situations when client safety and security is threatened by demonstrating ability to prioritize, delegate and assume authority according to Agency standards.

You will be qualified to provide a safe, clean, and secure environment for youth. You have a harm reduction mind set and can provide suicidal ideation intervention and safety planning. You also know how to build community support connections.
What You Bring
A Certificate, Degree or Diploma in Child & Youth Care or related Human Services field
A minimum of two - five years experience working in shelters with high risk and at-risk youth is required.
Knowledge of the values, beliefs, and practices of Aboriginal and other cultural and diverse groups
Previous experience working with ETO is considered an asset
CYCAA Child and Youth Care certification will be considered an asset
Prerequisites
Training in first aid, and/or non-violent crisis intervention
Training in suicide intervention and harm reduction
Trauma - Informed Care Training
Clear police clearance (CRIM) and a Child and Youth Intervention (CYIM) checks, both obtained within the last six months
Valid Class 5 driver's license and driver's abstract
Proof of vehicle insurance (at least $1 million third party liability)
Basic computer skills
