The Role:
For this new position, we are looking for a dedicated and passionate individual to oversees the care of potential residents from the application process through intake. This position plays a critical role in supporting individuals in the early stages of their recovery journey by providing active support and connecting them with resources and support in their community. This position will also conduct outreach activities.
Primary Duties:
Application and Assessment
Act as the primary contact of all applicants.
Conduct and oversee the evaluation and intake of potential residents.
Scheduled needs assessments for applicants who meet minimum criteria.
Complete Individualized Action Plans.
Maintain database of current resources for all communities in Nova Scotia to use in Action Plans and assist other staff in responding to inquiries.
Provide frontline support to the applicants and their families, if required. This includes conflict resolution.
Waitlist Management:
Maintain the applicant waitlist.
Actively engage with individuals on the waitlist balancing client engagement with staff outreach and support.
Bed Management and Client Intake:
Work in partnership with the Program Director to maintain effective bed management.
In partnership with the House and Property Coordinator and Residential Support workers, ensure that new residents receive comprehensive and welcoming intake and early adjustment period to the centre.
Outreach:
Conduct community outreach activities in partnership with the Program Director and the Executive Director.
Assisting with social media engagement.
Client Services:
Help resolve differences between residents to facilitate communal living.
Assist with resident's transportation to the pharmacy, programs, meetings, and appointments when needed.
Assist residents to modify attitudes and patterns of behaviour, as necessary, by identifying and building on personal strengths.
Use effective crisis intervention techniques to assess, establish priorities, and intervene appropriately.
Assist with other client services tasks as needed such as supervised medication, urinalysis drug screenings (UDS), etc.
Other Duties:
Assist in Program Facilitation when necessary.
Participate in case management meetings as required.
Assist in answering phones.
Adhere to trauma-informed, client-centred practices in alignment with the mission and vision of The Marguerite Center.
Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in any Human Services field, or an equivalent combination of training and work experience (PLAR).
An understanding of the issues of substance abuse (including alcohol, gambling, and other process addictions), homelessness, and other social issues.
An exceptional knowledge of a trauma-informed, women-centred approach to recovery programs including holistic alternative methodologies.
1.5 years experience working with adult offerneders on condititional release.
1.5 years experience working with individuals with addictions or mental health issues.
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
Excellent organizational skills.
Familiarity with appropriate computer software.
Required certifications to be acquired and maintained:
Standard First Aid and CPR certified
Considered an asset:
Certification in NVCI (non-violent crisis intervention) or similar
ASIST training (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) or similar
Employment Terms:
The Marguerite Centre is a 24-hour facility, some evening, night, and weekend work may be required. This role will require travel. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and vehicle insurance.
A clear criminal record, vulnerable sector, and fingerprint background check must be provided and will be reviewed annually.
