Job Description

The Indigenous Education and Outreach Coordinator supports the revitalization, integration, and promotion of Anishinaabe language and culture within educational programming at Wahnapitae First Nation (WFN). This role will serve as a key liaison between WFN and local school boards, facilitating partnerships and advocating for culturally relevant curriculum and programming for WFN students.

Internally, the Coordinator will support and enhance the After-School Program (ASP) and Youth Leadership Program (YLP) through the development and delivery of cultural and language-based content, working collaboratively with third-party knowledge keepers, artists, Elders, and language speakers where needed.

The Coordinator will also lead cultural initiatives within the Education Department and coordinate with the Cultural Workers in the Operations and Health Departments to deliver holistic, interdepartmental programming rooted in Anishinaabe values and knowledge systems.

QUALIFICATIONS



Diploma or degree from a recognized accredited institution of the following areas of study: Indigenous Studies, Social Service, Education or a related field; or equivalent experience. Strong knowledge of Anishinaabe culture, language, values, and teachings or the willingness to learn. Experience working with Indigenous youth and families in an educational or community setting. Demonstrated ability to coordinate events or programs and liaise with institutions or service providers. Proficiency in or commitment to learning Anishinaabemowin. Must possess a valid G driver's license. Current First Aid and CPR Certification would be considered an asset. Current Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector check. Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication, as well as great computer skills.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES



Education Liaison & Outreach

Act as the primary contact between WFN Education Department and local school boards to advocate for inclusive, culturally responsive education for WFN students. Facilitate meetings with educators and school board staff to support integration of Anishinaabe content in school-based learning. Organize presentations, workshops, or cultural events in schools to raise awareness of WFN culture and community.

Internal Program Support

Collaborate with ASP and YLP staff to co-develop and deliver Anishinaabe language and culture sessions. Identify and contract third-party facilitators to support programming. Ensure all cultural programming is age-appropriate, respectful, and grounded in community values.

Cultural Leadership & Collaboration

Lead the Education Department's cultural initiatives, ceremonies, and seasonal activities. Coordinate and align efforts with the Operations and Health Department Cultural Workers to ensure culturally cohesive service delivery across departments. Organize and facilitate community workshops, language events, or seasonal land-based learning opportunities.

Planning & Reporting

Develop annual work plans and cultural programming schedules aligned with Education Department strategic goals, within budget limitations. Maintain records of partnerships, events, and feedback for reporting and continuous improvement. Provide reports and updates to the Education Services Manager and contribute to funding proposals or reports as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS

- Work is preformed in a combination of in office and remotely.

- Ability to lift 25Ibs.

- Travel up to 30% is required.
