Position: Insurance Underwriting Assistant
Location: Ottawa, ON (Hybrid)
Salary: $25 to $30 per hour + 4% vacation pay (paid weekly)
Job Type: Contract starting ASAP to Aug 31, 2023 (with possibility of contract extension)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (35-hour week)
Are you based in Ottawa and its surroundings and are willing to work on-site twice a week? Do you have insurance-related experience or solid administrative experience? If so, please continue reading. We are looking for an Insurance Underwriting Assistant.
Responsibilities:

- Review and analyze submissions
- Assess exposure and determine rates, terms and conditions of coverages
- Negotiate terms and conditions with brokers
- Sign policies and authorize transmittal of documents to brokers and markets as required
- Prepare and maintain periodic reports pertinent to the ongoing operation
- Service current accounts
- Provide advice and expertise to other underwriters on underwriting issues
- Develop and maintain an awareness of claims and exposures

Requirements:

- Post-secondary education in insurance, business administration or related discipline
- 1 to 3 years work experience in insurance industry is an asset
- Bilingual in French is an asset
- Familiarity with the IT sector or an equivalent combination of skills and experience
- Outstanding customer service and negotiation skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Computer literate in Word, Excel and Outlook
