The Agriculture Risk Management and Lending Division, includes the Nova Scotia Crop and Livestock Insurance Commission which provides agricultural entrepreneurs with insurance products enabling them to manage the risk of financial losses caused by crop failures or animal production losses. It administers 16 crop insurance plans, a dairy livestock insurance plan, a poultry insurance plan and also administers a Wildlife Compensation Program. The Commission reports to the Minister of Agriculture and is a key component of the business risk management services that the department offers to the industry under the AgriInsurance platform.

About Our Opportunity

The Insurance Process Coordinator is responsible for providing research and development support, as well as analysis for underwriting and claims. The Insurance Process Coordinator will also support other Business Risk Management programs to meet the needs of the agriculture industry.

Primary Accountabilities

As the successful candidate, some of your primary accountabilities will include:

  • Assisting Coordinator of Research and Development with agricultural researching and planning.
  • Work with Manager, BRM to perform annual underwriting and claim calculations and processes.
  • May be occasionally asked to participate in onsite field work.
  • Other projects and duties may be required from time to time.
Qualifications and Experience

To be the successful candidate, you have a bachelor\'s degree in a related field plus three (3) years of related experience. A strong agricultural background with several years experience in agricultural and/or insurance analysis is essential, or equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

Additionally, you possess:
  • Knowledge of management practices involved in the growing of crops and animal husbandry.
  • Demonstrated understanding of principles and techniques of insurance processes.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate confident client interactions.
  • Analytic skills to perform complex insurance calculations and evaluations.
  • You must be self-motivated and able to work both independently and in collaboration with the team.
Equivalency

Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must demonstrate such equivalencies in their application. Equivalencies include, and are not limited to:
  • A diploma of two (2) years in related field plus five (5) years of experience.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in agricultural and/or insurance or related field.

Working Conditions

Most of your time is spent in an office environment with an occasional outdoor work in field setting involving travel on foot over rough terrain and sometimes in remote locations.

Additional Information

This is a TERM employment opportunity with anticipated end date of January 31, 2025. The appointment status (\'term\', \'temporary\' or \'casual\') is dependent o n the start date of the successful candidate.

Salary Range: $2,251.48 - $2,746.69 Bi-Weekly
