Join us in making biomedical innovations more accessible to Canadians. The new Biologics Manufacturing Centre is helping build Canada's capacity to produce, access and supply vaccines and other biologics to advance Canada's biomanufacturing sector and respond to public health emergencies.

We are looking for an Instrumentation Technician to support our Biologics Manufacturing Centre.The selected candidate would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

The Instrumentation Technician will be responsible for the calibration and maintaining of instruments and various components used for the control of manufacturing equipment and utilities, all in accordance with the procedures in place and the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

The incumbent will be responsible for:
  • Performs and documents calibrations of manufacturing and utility control instruments.
  • Evaluates criticality of instruments to establish calibration method and frequency
  • Coordinates calibration activities performed by external firms.
  • Makes recommendations regarding instrument calibration (continuous improvement).
The incumbent will also be involved in:
  • Complying with all standard operating procedures, GMP's and quality, safety and documentation system requirements of the plant.
  • Identifying root causes and corrective measures to be implemented in case of non-conformity.
  • Providing technical support to the operations.
The NRC will soon be transitioning Biologics Manufacturing Centre (including employees and operations) to a not-for-profit corporation structure (outside the Government of Canada). As a result, this is a term employment opportunity with the NRC until March 31, 2023, with the expectation that it transitions under the new organization on a permanent basis after this date. Screening Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

Graduation from a recognized technical college or institution in instrumentation and automation or industrial electronics

A relevant combination of education and experience may also be considered.

Experience
  • Significant experience working as a technician instrumentation/calibration in a manufacturing environment (preferably in the pharmaceutical or cosmetic field).
  • Experience in utility calibration (an asset), equipment (bioreactor, filtration, filling and secondary packaging), temperature-controlled enclosures and storage.
Significant experience is defined as at least 3 years of experience.

  • Work wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Must be able to handle/lift 23 kilos.

Assessment Criteria

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

Technical Competencies
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and control in an industrial setting;
  • Knowledge of the structure and operating modes of industrial systems in order to quickly detect the causes of malfunctions and failures;
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance software;
  • Knowledge of safety standards;
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment;
  • Knowledge of clean utilities will be considered (asset).

For this position, the NRC will evaluate candidates using the following competency profile

Relocation

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives.

Compensation

From $58,445 to $80,040 per annum.

In addition, the incumbent will receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 per year.
