We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation Engineer to join our growing team at Federation and help deliver high-quality engineering solutions across a range of industrial and oil and gas projects, including refineries, oilsands, energy generation, and SAGD. This role plays a key part in the design, coordination, and execution of instrumentation systems from concept to completion. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams and clients, helping drive project success while contributing to our supportive and forward-thinking workplace culture.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Design:
Develop instrumentation design for industrial and oil and gas facilities
P&ID development and design
Create and review instrument indexes, loop diagrams, datasheet and sizing, and UPS load requirements lists
Create and review I/O count and assignments, control system drawings, and control schematics
Prepare RFQs and purchase orders for instrumentation and control systems
Carry out technical evaluations and vendor documentation review
Communicate with vendors and contractors as required
Participate in HAZOPs and close out action items
Write detailed engineering reports, studies, and briefs
Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure a timely and accurate flow of design information, while ensuring departmental and client standards are maintained
Build and Cultivate Client Relationships:
Engage current and potential clients in the marketplace
Cross sell engineering and/or construction services to clients
Provide exceptional client service - dependable, responsive, sensible
Office Leadership:
Contribute to a dynamic workplace culture
Other duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
Skills and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering
Registered as a P.Eng. with APEGA and/or APEGS
Experience working on Management of Change (MOC) projects
Experience in O&G/Chemical/Petrochemical industries is an asset
Working knowledge of SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI)
Familiarity with CEC and international codes, standards, and approved codes of practice
Self-starter with the ability to work independently when required
Strong experience with interdisciplinary coordination
Proficiency in MS Office Suite programs used to create reports and documents
Field or shop experience is an asset

Working Conditions
At Federation, we support flexible working arrangements for our team. Our hybrid work model includes three days in the office (Tuesday to Thursday) and two days of your choice, whether from home or the office (Monday and Friday). We also offer half-day Fridays to promote work-life balance.
From time to time, travel to client sites or other Federation offices may be required (up to 10%).
