Duties:
  • Provides input as the business technical expert on corporate-wide and Dam Safety technology
projects. Provides feedback on the impact of projects, user requirements and other project related
documents. Carries out user acceptance testing to ensure applications/enhancements meets
functional and operational requirements.

  • Oversees the data entry methods and quality control for the instrumentation database by:
reviewing and reconciling data received from the field in a variety of formats (such as datalogger
files, downloads from electronic devices); running or creating routines and tools for automated
data entry into the database; carrying out user acceptance testing on new instruments to ensure
functional and operational requirements are met; and running or creating programs to verify the
data quality being entered into the database.

  • Develops and maintains instrument naming conventions and metadata standards to ensure
consistent application between projects. Monitors naming conventions and metadata to ensure
data integrity is maintained. Recommends improvements to ensure consistent application of
naming conventions and metadata standards to management.

  • Identifies and fixes errors in new and historical data in the instrumentation database. Runs data
processing programs and/or scripts to fix errors and update data. Recommends solutions to users
on how to mitigate the occurrence of errors in the database.

  • Coordinates software updates that interface with the instrumentation database. Tracks software
interfacing with database to ensure programs are current and functioning correctly. Schedules
software updates and adhoc updates with key stakeholders as required to ensure deployment
results in minimal disruption. Monitors software updates to ensure updates have been
successfully applied.

  • Provides technical guidance and support to users on instrumentation database functionality, data




uploading methods, plotting programs and graphical user interfaces with the instrumentation
database. Troubleshoots and resolves data entry/loading issues by fixing or creating scripts,
programs and processes.

  • Works with the external database administrator to monitor and maintain the effectiveness and
availability of the instrumentation database for users. Works with key stakeholders to identify
opportunities to enhance the operational performance of the database.

  • Monitors and oversees contractor resources and budget for database administration work
requests. Reviews and approves contractor invoices prior to management approval. Prepares
work progress reports summarizing software licensing, software development, database
administration and server management contracts for management to track costs.

  • Performs some or all the duties of the Instrumentation Data Administrator job.

  • Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the
job.


Qualifications:

  • Degree in Computer Science or Diploma of Technology in Computing & Information Technology
from recognized Institute of Technology or an equivalent combination of experience, training and
education.

  • Two (2) years of experience in a role involved in database development, programming and
maintenance in a Windows SQL server environment.

  • Requires in-house training in specific BC Hydro systems and software applications (such as
Dam Smart, GeoViewer) that must be completed within three (3) months of starting in the job.

  • Must hold a valid class five (5) driver\'s license.
