The Shell Engineering Services team is seeking an Instrumentation Engineer to join the team. The Engineering Services team is a multi-disciplinary team of engineers working to support the multi-disciplinary production & execution teams. Engineering Services team members gain exposure from other disciplines to help round their experience and knowledge in the petrochemical industry.

The Instrumentation Engineer plays a key role in overall safety/ reliability of the operating units. This team member is accountable for providing engineering support to the production teams in resolving mid to long term challenges and integrating with other production team members to resolve issues regarding regulatory instruments. The Instrumentation Engineer provides technical advice, troubleshooting, assurance and start up assistance as required to the Reliability, Maintenance, Projects and Production Teams focused on regulatory compliance instrumentation.

Accountabilities:

  • Conducts failure analysis of all significant regulatory instrumentation failures
  • Causal failure analysis on all other regulatory instrumentation failures
  • Develops and implements improvement plans for regulatory instruments
  • Maintain plans to replace regulatory instrumentation infrastructure through obsolescence
  • Resolution of regulatory instrumentation related MTO threats
  • Integrate equipment strategies through the RCM process to meet the regulations
  • Integration of instrumentation scopes with Production, Maintenance and Technical teams
  • Proactive technical monitoring of instrumentation in their assigned areas
  • Integration and review of management of change elements for regulatory instrumentation
  • Pursue resolution of bad actors including integrating the investigations and recommending resolutions for bad actor regulatory instrumentation
  • Support regulatory instrumentation selection, installation, commissioning and start up
  • Ensure technical recommendations reflect statutory, Federal, and Provincial regulations, Shell Standards and good engineering practices
  • Provide engineering for small and medium initiatives to support site safety, reliability and growth
  • Provide regulatory instrumentation support for Project Development
  • Provide technical assurance of preventive maintenance activities, pitstop, project and turnaround activities
  • Review and approval of BOM updates
  • Process safety of regulatory instrumentation
Skills & Requirements
  • BacheloraEUR(TM)s degree or Certificate in Engineering is required
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in a similar role
  • Must be a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario or have the ability to acquire
  • In depth knowledge of the safe operation of different types of instrumentation and their application in the oil and gas processing industry
  • Knowledge of Safety Instrumented Safety (SIS), Cause and Effect and Hazards, Effects, Management Process (HEMP)
  • Knowledge and skill in instrumentation practices and procedures, and appropriate codes
