About the Position

Lethbridge College is seeking applications for a Faculty member in the School of Spatial Design Technologies with a background and expertise in immersive realities. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, innovative, and supportive participant within the VXR program and within the Centre for Technology, Environment & Design. The successful applicant must demonstrate:

1) commitment to lifelong learning,
2) respect for students and colleagues,
3) interest and participation in the goals and objectives of the School of Spatial Design Technologies,
4) commitment to Lethbridge College, overall.

Reporting to Associate Dean of the Centre, the successful candidate will be responsible for instruction, curriculum development, and for fostering relationships with the broader extended realities industry. Applicants must have a strong commitment to effective teaching and possess a demonstrated ability, as well as keen interest to lead industry integration or facilitate work-integrated learning or practicum opportunities for students. The instructor would ensure an inclusive learning environment. Previous experience in the immersive realities industry including design, production, promotion, or training user experiences will be a definite asset. You would be teaching: \xc2\xb7 3D Modelling \xc2\xb7 Game Engine Coding \xc2\xb7 User Experience Design \xc2\xb7 Optimization for Immersive Environments.
Note: This position requires on-campus delivery. Remote work is not an option.

Position Details

The Centre for Technology, Environment and Design, School of Spatial Design Technologies seeks a faculty member with superior preparation and ongoing engagement in their academic and professional fields, passion for teaching, and willingness to making excellence in teaching their primary focus.

The ideal candidate would possess proven experience in creating interactive experiences; teaching experience is an asset, as well as complementary knowledge in 3D modeling (Blender and/or Maya) and a strong understanding of C# and blueprints coding. The primary assignment will be delivering instruction of a variety of courses in the VXR program.

The successful candidate will fulfill responsibilities such as the preparation and teaching of multiple sections, within other programs of the School of Spatial Design Technologies, demonstrate commitment to professional development and scholarship, as well as the following:

  • Be self-motivated and able to work positively in a team environment is a must.
  • Engage as a member of a larger faculty team in the development and implementation of course related or curricular initiatives.
  • Experience teaching on-line and/or working in a studio environment would be an asset; prior experience in teaching or training is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Motivation to recruit, integrating industry and embracing research initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive virtual and augmented reality courses, assessments, and experiences.
  • Design instructional materials, presentations, demonstrations, and interactive learning activities, to effectively teach VR/AR concepts and techniques.
  • Conduct virtual classes, delivering lectures, presentations, and demonstrations to educate students on VR/AR fundamentals and advanced topics.
  • Guide and mentor students in their individual project work, providing feedback, troubleshooting assistance and best practices for VR/AR development.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in VR/AR technologies, tools, and software platforms, and incorporate them into the curriculum as appropriate.
  • Support the marketing and promotion of VR/AR courses by contributing to course descriptions and other marketing materials.
  • Maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment, fostering collaboration, creativity, and exploration among students.
  • Strong instructional and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to students of varying skill levels.
  • Passion for VR/AR technologies and their potential applications in various industries.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum educational requirement is a diploma or degree in a closely related field in combination with industry experience.
  • A Certificate credential may be considered.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience is considered an asset.
  • Proven experience in virtual and augmented reality development and design, including proficiency in popular VR/AR platforms, tools, and programming languages (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine, C#, C++, etc.).
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling, animation, or game development concepts would be a plus.
