What you\'ll do

The Theatre Department at Capilano University is looking for a regularized part-time instructor to teach props construction, scenic paint, set design, and the practices of senior production personnel.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for and provide guidance to technical theatre students on the construction of props, props buying and scenic paint duties for the 4 productions of the Theatre departments season.

This instructor will have an excellent knowledge and ability in:

  • Props construction and Techniques
  • Scenic Painting
  • CAD
  • Theatre Operations, including Production Management and Technical Direction
  • Mask, Casting and Puppet Construction
  • Sculpting and Molding
  • Model Making - Traditional and 3D Printed
  • Furniture Upholstery and Construction
Additional Assets:
  • Basic Carpentry
  • Basic Rigging, Sound and Lighting for Theatre
Other responsibilities will include attending production meetings, rehearsals as needed and department meetings.
What you\'ll bring
  • A Master\'s Degree in a relevant area.
  • A Bachelor\'s Degree, certification or equivalent qualification from an accredited college or training program may be considered.
  • Professional experience will be considered.
  • Previous teaching at a University or post-secondary institution is required.
  • Must have excellent communication and collaboration skills, demonstrate patience and leadership skills, be energetic, driven, creative, and dependable.
  • Proven ability to teach adult learners and to create a learning environment that supports a diverse student population.
