The University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) is one of Canada's leading clinical, research and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually. The UAH and Stollery Children's Emergency Department is a busy tertiary care level I emergency department and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This large tertiary Trauma Centre provides opportunities in a broad base of emergency nursing from Pediatrics to Trauma Care. Staff within the Emergency department work in a state of the art facility utilizing an electronic tracking system, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for emergency patients. Decisions are made in a collaborative multidisciplinary health care team environment. In this role, you may be required to work in all areas of Emergency at the discretion of the Unit Manager/Charge Nurse. Working with us is about making a difference. The Instructor - Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) for Emergency UAH/Stollery, uses principles of adult learning and assesses, plans, implements and evaluates education and development needs of staff. The incumbent facilitates, coordinates and supports the implementation of educational initiatives for orientation, mandatory education, and in-service/continuing education in collaboration with CNE team and Unit Managers. Other duties include promoting the clinical competence of staff through changes in policy, procedures, protocols, and technology. Liaison and collaboration with CNEs at other sites to enhance Emergency practice throughout the zone program is essential.

As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

This position requires a highly skilled and experienced healthcare professional with strong leadership capabilities and a deep commitment to excellence in emergency care. All qualifications listed below are mandatory. Candidates must possess advanced computer skills essential for clinical documentation. Demonstrated experience in in-service education and program development--including implementation and evaluation--is required. A high level of motivation and self-direction is essential, along with the ability to lead teams and drive performance in a demanding clinical environment. Applicants must have a minimum of 10 years of recent tertiary Emergency Department experience, with strong clinical competencies actively practiced within the last two years. Superior communication and problem-solving skills for effective collaboration and decision-making. Robust leadership skills are required to mentor staff, manage change, and promote continuous improvement in patient care. Physical stamina is also essential, as the role involves substantial walking, standing, pushing, pulling, and overhead reaching to support clinical staff on the floor. Only candidates who meet all of these requirements will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

current instructor-level certifications in TNCC, ENPC, CPR, CTAS, ACLS, and PALS. Previous experience in a Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) position is highly desirable, demonstrating leadership in staff development and clinical training. Candidates should also have a proven ability to create effective educational materials tailored to both healthcare professionals and patients. Familiarity with Connect Care is considered an asset.
