Capilano University\xe2\x80\x99s School of Motion Picture Arts is dedicated to inspiring and training a new generation of Canadian talent in the film, TV, animation, gaming and motion picture industries.


Film courses at Capilano University include classroom and studio instruction, lectures, and hands-on demonstrations in both dramatic and documentary practice. Group, individual and production mentoring, as well as \xe2\x80\x9con-set\xe2\x80\x9d supervision and support are central to the applied nature of our program. The successful candidate will lead/participate in workshops addressing documentary technique and aesthetics across all years of study.

The ideal candidate should possess an advanced degree that has enriched their professional capabilities as a filmmaker in documentary features, television, and other media. They should have advanced skills and considerable industry experience in both documentary and drama production and direction, as well as a thorough understand of post-production and delivery workflows. Furthermore, their extensive experience as a documentary director and producer has equipped them with the expertise to mentor young filmmakers in storytelling, production, and marketing.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll bring
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience in documentary practice
  • Current practice and in-depth knowledge of documentary and drama research and production
  • Knowledge of Canadian and World Cinema history
  • Knowledge of post-production, digital workflow, delivery and marketing
  • Proven record of teaching or training
  • Experience working and collaborating within a large and diverse team
  • An active professional network of media industry contacts open to providing practicum experience to Motion Picture Arts students is essential
