Your Opportunity:

The Claresholm Centre for Mental Health & Addictions is a 120 bed facility with an attached outpatient program (community support services) of 40 spaces. There are three primary units at the site include Concurrent Disorders, Active Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Extended Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Transitions Unit. Professionals at the Centre believe in each individual’s potential for development and success. Our team includes Nurses, Social Workers, Psychiatrists, Psychologist, Physicians, Pharmacists, Recreational and Occupational Therapists, Dieticians and other Mental Health providers. Once a patient is ready for transition and re-entry into community living, follow-up support, Outpatient programs and outreach services are coordinated for patients. Reporting to the Manager, Clinical Operations, this position in a rural addiction and mental health inpatient setting. Responsibilities include providing leadership for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of educational activities designed for both regulated and unregulated staff primarily at the Claresholm Centre for Mental Health and Addictions. In addition, the position will be expected to provide support to the Lander Treatment Centre and Mental Health Clinic. This role assumes responsibility for the designing and delivery of education and support regarding learning needs as identified by legislation, continuing competencies, evidence based practice and team-based goal setting. Other responsibilities include assuming a leadership role in networking, planning and implementing quality improvement initiatives. The Clinical Education Coordinator collaborates with an interdisciplinary team and urban AMH educator groups to identify and prioritize areas of improvement based on high risk, high cost and high volume and provides relevant learning opportunities in a cost effective manner.

Description:

As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator in support of both nursing staff and the multi-disciplinary clinical team. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications: Experience facilitating/teaching within a diverse group of adult learners. Experience in a broad range of clinical areas related to mental health required. Clinical expertise, including excellent medical and mental health nursing skills (at least 5 years). Demonstrates organizational and leadership skills. Demonstrates a working knowledge and application of the Collaborative Problem Solving approach. Demonstrates knowledge of other zone stakeholders within addiction and mental health. Proven critical thinking and decision-making skills. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills. Working knowledge of applicable legislation including Mental Health Act, PPIC and HIA. Working knowledge of virtual learning applications and computer skills required. Demonstrates willingness to travel (when permitted). Preferred Qualifications: Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in the community sector will be considered. Masters preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in the community sector will be considered.
