Cool Arts Society
is a non-profit organization that provides visual arts opportunities for adults living with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in the Central Okanagan. Our mission is to create inclusive spaces where artists can build creative autonomy, confidence, and visibility within the community.
We are currently recruiting a
Textile Art Instructor
to lead a weekly course titled
FiberPlay
.
The Course: FiberPlay
FiberPlay is a course rooted in
play, exploration, and experimentation
with fibres, textures, and colour. The approach is intentionally open, encouraging curiosity, hands-on making, and creative freedom, while providing a clear and supportive structure.
The studio is
well equipped
, including:
a large stock of
yarn and textiles
frame looms
available for participants
Techniques may include (but are not limited to): weaving (loom/frame), braiding, interlacing, working with carded wool, felting (wet or dry), textile collage, assemblage, and experimental textile creation.

Classes:
Thursdays
In-class time:
2 hours
Dates:
Thursday, January 8 to Thursday, March 26
Each 2-hour class is
paid as 4 hours
, including preparation time and studio clean-up.
Rate:
$25/hour
Total:
$100 per class taught
Your Role
You will play a key role in a creative, structured, and joyful learning environment. Responsibilities include:
Designing
accessible, engaging lesson plans
suitable for varied skill levels
Proposing
three textile projects
aligned with a shared seasonal theme (in collaboration with the team)
Creating a
supportive, safe, and motivating atmosphere
Supporting each artist's creative goals at their own pace
Guiding classroom volunteers and fostering a collaborative dynamic
Ensuring proper use, care, and organization of textile materials
Maintaining a clean, organized, and respectful studio space
Profile
You are a creative, flexible, and people-centred individual with a genuine interest in teaching and inclusion.
Ideally, you have:
Strong practice or experience in
textile arts / fibre arts
The ability to explain processes clearly and enthusiastically
Good organizational and communication skills
A patient, positive, and encouraging approach
Asset (not required):
experience working with people with disabilities and/or accessible learning practices.
A
criminal record check
will be required (provided and paid for by Cool Arts Society).
