The Instructor applies skill in teaching and learning to facilitate inclusive student engagement and educational approaches for learners as they develop innovative techniques to teach students about the many facets of their courses.

The Instructor guides the development of curriculum, courses, and methodologies to address the learning requirements within the Centre for Entertainment Arts programs. The Instructor works collaboratively with faculty and internal stakeholders to facilitate inclusive learning opportunities for learners of varying skill-levels and experience; delivers and develops related curriculum as assigned; supports internal research into continuous instructional improvement; and liaises with external stakeholders to support placement and partnership opportunities in industry

Provides program and curriculum support

  • Defines, evaluates and validates learning outcomes.
  • Instructs courses as assigned.
  • Selects instructional strategies to meet learners needs.
  • Creates lesson plans in collaboration with instructional team.
  • Defines, evaluates and validates learning outcomes.
  • Designs, develops and reviews course/curriculum with faculty and Program Chair support.
  • Provides expertise in industry/ technology related initiatives.
  • Keeps current regarding changes in industry and supports curriculum redesign as required.
  • Maintains official records as required.
  • Fosters a positive learning environment in which learners are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
  • Models positive academic attitudes and behaviors.
  • Designs, develops and reviews course/curriculum with faculty and Program Chair support.
Provides a positive learning experience for Students
  • Collaborates with faculty to ensure best practices in instructional delivery.
  • Supports innovation in course development and instructional design.
  • Identifies areas of concerns and refer to the Program Chair for follow up if necessary.
  • Supports the program in awarding scholarships and bursaries.
  • Participates in college and departmental events that promote student success (for example, but not limited to: orientation, open house, graduation).
Builds and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and promote the department and the College
  • Assists with articulation and transfer activity as required.
  • Meets with industry and community stakeholders and sits on Advisory Committee.
  • Attends external industry networking events.
  • Develops community partnerships in industry for placement support.
Other duties/special projects
  • Completes any professional development requirements (for example, but not limited to: D2L; Agresso Student Module Training, Instruction Skills Training, FOIP).
  • Provides input into Continuing Learning initiatives at Bow Valley College.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in applied research.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • Diploma in a related field (post-secondary)
  • 2 years of industry experience, and one accredited published movie, game or app title
  • Demonstrable familiarity and experience in this discipline
  • Excellent communication, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead workshops, lectures and seminars
  • An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 years of relevant experience
  • Relevant degree is preferred
  • Experience working with and teaching students is advantageous
  • Excellent communication, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with learners from beginner to advanced levels, and with learners with interrupted formal education.
  • Ability to work independently and on a collaborative team.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to recognize variations in learner backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles.
  • Ability to interact in a friendly and patient manner with learners from different cultural backgrounds, learners of all levels of language proficiency, and learners who may require accommodations.
