Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive

Quality & Safety Engineer (Bilingual in French and English)

to join our team in Montreal. This role is pivotal in driving quality performance, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and supporting continuous improvement across escalator and elevator projects. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of quality assurance methodologies, and experience in large-scale construction or vertical transportation projects.

On a typical day you will:



Quality Management

Supervise and initiate quality control on each unit from early stages through customer handover. Perform in-process and product inspections using tests, sampling, and validation procedures. Analyze quality issues on-site, prepare and track material requests, and monitor delivery timelines. Maintain and update the project product deviation list and quality records. Collaborate with the factory to ensure technical documentation is accurate and updated. Support the Construction Manager with quality KPIs and internal/external audits. Coordinate with External Stakeholders for final project closures, inspections, and process improvements. Investigate non-conformances, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions. Deliver quality-related training (e.g., layout reading, plumb chart verification, code compliance). Support the Project Manager in developing and executing the project quality plan. Participate in monthly reporting and advocate improvements. Maintain structured document control and a library/database of manuals, templates, and forms per ISO standards. Assist in vendor performance assessments related to quality and retention release decisions.
Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS)

Lead accident and incident investigations, reporting, and resolution. Promote EHS awareness and support organizational objectives. Champion Otis Safety Culture and lead by example. Develop and deliver escalator safety training and presentations. Partner with EHS Managers in Otis North America to support field-based EHS performance. Ensure compliance with Quebec-specific EHS regulations. Manage safety performance metrics, documentation, and training records. Create and lead training sessions for customer teams and onboard new internal resources.

What you will need to be successful:



Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or EHS related studies 4-5 years of similar experience in the elevator/escalator or large-scale construction industry. ISO 9001 Quality Certification recommended. Strong knowledge of quality assurance terminology, methods, and tools. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Proficiency in database management and defect tracking. Professional certification (e.g., Six Sigma, CQE, CQA) is an asset. Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint - Microsoft platforms). Working proficiency in French and English.

Ce poste est essentiel pour stimuler la performance en matiere de qualite, garantir la conformite aux normes de securite et reglementaires et soutenir l'amelioration continue dans le cadre de projets d'escalier mecanique et d'ascenseur. La personne ideale possedera de solides competences analytiques, une bonne comprehension des methodologies d'assurance qualite et de l'experience dans des projets de construction ou de transport vertical a grande echelle.

Au cours d'une journee type, vous allez :



Gestion de la qualite

Superviser et mettre en place le controle qualite sur chaque appareil, depuis le debut du processus jusqu'a la mise a disposition du client. Effectuer des inspections en chantier et des inspections des produits a l'aide d'essais, d'echantillonnages et de procedures de validation. Analyser les problemes de qualite sur place, preparer et suivre les demandes de materiel et controler les delais de livraison. Tenir et mettre a jour la liste des ecarts par rapport aux specifications du produit et les dossiers qualite. Collaborer avec l'usine pour garantir l'exactitude et la mise a jour de la documentation technique. Assister le directeur de la construction dans la mise en place d'indicateurs cles de performance et de controles internes/externes. Coordonner avec les intervenants externes la cloture definitive des projets, les inspections et les ameliorations de processus. Enqueter sur les non-conformites, identifier les causes profondes et mettre en oeuvre des mesures correctives. Dispenser des formations liees a la qualite (par exemple, lecture de plans, verification des fils a plomb, conformite aux codes). Soutenir le gestionnaire de projet dans l'elaboration et l'execution du plan de qualite du projet. Participer a la production des rapports mensuels et proposer des ameliorations. Maintenir un controle structure des documents et une bibliotheque/base de donnees de manuels, modeles et formulaires conformement aux normes ISO. Participer a l'evaluation du rendement des fournisseurs en matiere de qualite et aux decisions relatives a la reconduction des contrats.
Environnement, sante et securite (ESS)

Diriger les enquetes sur les accidents et les incidents, l'elaboration de rapports et la resolution. Promouvoir le respect des normes ESS et soutenir les objectifs organisationnels. Montrer l'exemple et promouvoir la culture de securite d'Otis. Elaborer et organiser des formations et des presentations sur la securite des escaliers mecaniques. Collaborer avec les professionnels ESS d'Otis partout en Amerique du Nord afin de soutenir le rendement ESS en clientele. Veiller au respect de la reglementation ESS en vigueur au Quebec. Gerer les indicateurs de rendement en matiere de securite, la documentation et les dossiers de formation. Creer et diriger des seances de formation a l'intention du personnel des clients et integrer les nouvelles ressources internes.

Ce dont vous aurez besoin pour reussir :



Detenir un baccalaureat en genie mecanique ou electrique ou dans un domaine lie a l'environnement, la sante et la securite combine a 4-5 ans d'experience similaire dans le domaine des ascenseurs/escaliers mecaniques ou dans le secteur de la construction a grande echelle. Detenir la certification qualite ISO 9001 est souhaitable. Posseder de solides connaissances en matiere de terminologie, de methodes et d'outils lies a l'assurance qualite. Faire preuve d'excellentes competences en matiere d'analyse, de resolution de problemes et de prise de decision. Maitriser la gestion de bases de donnees et du suivi des defauts. Detenir une certification professionnelle (par exemple, Six Sigma, CQE, CQA) constitue un atout. Posseder de solides connaissances informatiques (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel et PowerPoint - plateforme Microsoft). Posseder d'excellentes dispositions a communiquer en francais et en anglais, tant a l'oral qu'a l'ecrit. (Toutes les interactions avec les clients se derouleront en francais. La connaissance de la langue anglaise est demandee puisque la personne devra communiquer avec certains cadres superieurs du siege social situe et l'usine de fabrication dans une region anglophone, ce qui devrait representer environ 25 % du temps de travail).
