We are seeking an individual who specializes in Electrical Engineering, with experience in outside and inside assets such as Switch Yard, Class IV power and distribution, Class III Power and generation, distribution, motors (VFDs), lighting, building automation, energy centre, and energy meters, to represent the Asset Custodian and Operational Authority (OA) and Client on assigned Infrastructure assets supporting Enhanced Safety, Effective Management of Risk, Continued Compliance, and Improved Reliability. What you will be doing!

  • Supporting the Asset Custodian (AC) and Operational Authority (OA) and Client on assigned Infrastructure assets supporting the following Strategic Goals (SGs): Enhanced Safety, Effective Management of Risk, Continued Compliance, Reliable (to meet required level of service), and achieve Sustainability targets (Energy Efficiency, and Carbon Neutrality by 2040 with interim goals) and General Service Cost Reduction.
  • Ensuring and supporting the development of Condition Assessments and Asset Management plans complete with Preventative Maintenance (PM) activities on assigned assets. Utilizing technical information (ex. CAs, Maintenance reports and other) to ensure the assigned assets are safe, compliant, reliable and achieve sustainability and general service targets are met through the follow:
  • Ensuring and supporting required KPIs have been developed, tracked and providing value (break downs, %poor, GHG emissions and reduction, energy usage)
  • Ensuring and supporting short term and long term plans (ex. annual shut downs, Sustain 25, Thrive to 35, Forward to 45) are developed
  • Ensuring and supporting the development of Client Requirement Documents (and other project artefacts) are developed to support executing organizations.
  • Representing the client (and OA / AC) on all engineering changes to assigned assets and strategic projects (ex. new builds, major retrofits, major shut downs, Energy Performance Contract, Building Automation). Providing leadership and direction to executing organizations to ensure SGs are met.
  • Client representative for assigned Energy Agreements (ex. IESO, Hydro One, Enbridge, DR Water, etc.)
  • Providing oversight and direction to General Service (GS) budgets on assigned assets with the intention to reduce GS expenditures and maximize Capital expenditure opportunities. Ensuring that only necessary work is planned and executed.
  • Ensuring and supporting AECL\xe2\x80\x99s new 2024/25 commitment in their Environmental and Social Governance (ESG Rev.2)
  • Developing and managing the energy models for all keeper facilities
  • Energy meters are installed on required facilities
  • Providing project management support (by exception) to support strategic goals for assigned assets
What we are looking for:
  • Bachelors (Honours) in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing; or (b) membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
  • An Engineering graduate within an applicable discipline of either Mechanical, Electrical or Civil (or related) is required.
  • Licensed or the ability to become licensed in the province of Ontario (PEO).
  • A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience and training demonstrating a subject matter expert (SME) level of abilities in the areas of the discipline related to campus assets: building, utilities, linear assets (distribution) and S&T infrastructure (ex. building envelope, asbestos, roads & grounds, switch yards, power and distribution, power generation, harmonics, variable frequency drives (VFDs), steam, condensate, air, water, HVAC, building automation and control, fume hoods, exhaust systems).
  • Training, certifications and experience in the following areas will be considered an asset: Codes & Standards related to discipline, Sustainability, Asset Management, Project Management (PMP), Risk Management (RMP), and/or more.
  • A strong business approach along with a focus on details and the ability to produce broad scoped, highly accurate and complex technical documents and reports related to strategic goals identified above. Develop specialized reports which contribute to cross-Company strategic initiatives.
  • An excellent communicator who will work well in both a team environment and independently, will have a strong attention to detail, as well as superior analytical and problem solving skills and ability to strategically plan and prioritize work.
  • Ability to operate and use industry standard software and tools related to the strategic goals above (ex. Asset Condition and Management, Energy Modelling, Project Management, Maintenance Management). Ability to utilize tools to apply highly complex specialised analyses.
  • Good verbal and written skills to be able to communicate clearly and accurately with both technical and non-technical personnel, inside and outside CNL.
  • Providing effective technical oversight to executing organizations (ex. Infrastructure Management, Capital) to ensure strategic goals are met.
  • Respond to complex inquiries and issues.
  • Ability to think strategically and to translate high-level strategic short, mid and long term goals into applicable plans.Ability to work outside normal work hours
  • Training and strong technical understanding of related codes and standards (ex. Canadian/Ontario Building Codes, CSA B31) and quality programs (ex. ISO9001, N299), system or component life expectancies and the understanding of the role of timely condition assessment inspections and related maintenance practices to deliver on the strategic goals above.
Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom.

Location of Work - Hybrid (Category B)
  • This role is based out of CNL\xe2\x80\x99s Chalk River site, however, subject to the terms of this agreement, the primary work location will be remote. The role will require some regular and frequent attendance at the Chalk River site. The schedule and frequency will be determined by discussions with the manager as well as internal client and project needs. CNL may require travel from time to time, as necessary.
