The position of Information Services Librarian is responsible for providing advanced front-line reference and reader's advisory to members. Assisting with location and system-wide collection management.
What You'll Do
As an Information Services Librarian, you will:
Answer member questions in person, by telephone or by internet:
General inquiries.
Advanced catalogue search and use of available reference tools.
Advanced readers advisory including assisting members to find resources using the library catalogue, electronic databases, microfilm equipment and the internet and making recommendations to members regarding leisure reading, viewing and listening material.
Instruct members in the use of computers, maker equipment and/or software for users with all skill levels.
In collaboration with the Manager, Queen's Square, complete collection management assignments as required, such as:
Assisting with de-selection, shelf-reading, maintenance, and cataloguing of collections as required.
Coordinating specialized collections as assigned.
Providing feedback on Automatic Release Plans (ARPs) for adult collections.
Prepare bibliographic reading/ viewing lists and displays on selected topics for a variety of audiences.
Contribute to the promotion of Cambridge Public Library services and collections by writing magazine articles, material reviews and website content as requested.
Facilitate or conduct adult programming and group tours at the location in coordination with the Outreach and Programming Team and the location Manager.
Be responsible for addressing the conduct of members and visitors that violates Cambridge Public Library's code of conduct.
Under the direction of the Manager, Queen's Square Adult Services, execute new initiatives and services.
Project management (planning, producing, implementation, monitoring, reporting)
Develop guides and tutorials to instruct staff and members on the use of electronic materials, resources, and databases.
Adapt or modify procedures, programs, or inform policy development
Makes recommendations regarding the development of policies and procedures for adult collections.
Other duties as required including, but not limited to:
Act as Person in Charge when assigned.
Monitor building security when scheduled.
What You Bring
To be qualified for and successful in the role, you should have:
Required
- University Master's degree in Library Information Science or Information Studies.
Required
- Six (6) months experience working in a customer service environment
Preferred
- Six (6) months working experience in a public library
Preferred
- Some working knowledge of MARC21 and current cataloguing rules and standards, such as RDA and LCSH.
Ability to connect with people of all ages and offer hands-on assistance.
Exceptional verbal and written communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to explain complex technology to non-technical users
Highly-organized, and able to carry out job functions with flexibility, creativity and initiative
Strong analytical skills and a keen attention to detail
Excellent multitasking skills and ability to complete responsibilities on time

Wage
: $34.67 per hour (Level 8 in our salary grid).
Hours of Work
: 32.5 to 36.75 hours in a two-week period

: Working various day, evening, and weekend shifts
