Jessie\xe2\x80\x99s \xe2\x80\x93 The June Callwood Centre for Young Women is a multi-service resource centre for pregnant young women, young parents and their children. Jessie\xe2\x80\x99s work includes a broad spectrum of services addressing issues related to the social determinants of health. Jessie\xe2\x80\x99s operates from a feminist perspective and is a pro-choice organization that supports a woman\xe2\x80\x99s right to make choices about her sexual health and pregnancy options. Education:
  • E.C.A. or equivalent
  • E.C.E. Diploma an asset
  • First aid and CPR Certification
Experience:
  • Applicants must have experience in group care of infants and toddlers.
  • Experience program planning for infants and toddlers
  • Implementation of activities for infants and toddlers
  • Experience working with young parents and/or drop-in programs is an asset
  • The ability to speak a second language is an asset
Responsibilities
  • Provide all programming with an individualized approach according to the needs of the participants
  • Plan, implement and assess developmentally appropriate activities for children ages newborn to 6 years, utilizing the Centre\'s drop in model
  • Ensure guidance of a strengths-based approach to parenting and child development
  • Ensure an environment that is healthy and safe
  • Ensure positive communication with parents
  • Support volunteers and placement students
Physical Demands:
  • Multiple demands and constant interruption in tasks
  • Lifting, carrying and holding children up to 35lbs. while standing and seated
  • Sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time
  • Kneeling and squatting on the floor during play and supervision of children
  • Outdoor supervision of children and parent activities
  • Exposure to cleaning products
  • Exposure to bacterial and viral infections
  • Exposure to noise
Service Delivery Tasks:
  • Provide a safe, secure and predictable environment to parents, children and prenatal women that actively promote diversity and acceptance
  • Plan and Provide a balance of age appropriate activities, Including indoor/outdoor, quiet/active and individual/group which supports children\xe2\x80\x99s emotional, social, physical and cognitive growth
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques including modelling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and reinforcing
  • Provide opportunities for child directed play experiences
  • Obtain all information required from parents upon arrival and review all recorded information with the parent upon pickup; utilizing the documentation provided
  • Adhere to the mother\xe2\x80\x99s expectations on all aspects of childcare; food, sleep patterns, comfort, activities
  • Provide parents with updates on their child\xe2\x80\x99s activities, progress and development while in the Parent Child Centre
  • Recognize and promote the strength of all parent and child relationships within the Centre
  • Provide positive guidelines utilizing language, reinforcement and redirecting
  • Support parent(s) and child(ren) through the process of separation.
  • Provide effective parenting strategies as well as access to supports to promote resilience and positive parent-child dyad and family relationships.
  • Adhere to the Parent Child Centre guidelines and philosophy
  • Oversee the Parent Child Centre at all times
  • Participate in, as necessary in case coordination meetings, and work as a team with the Counsellor/Case worker(s), Health Promotion Specialist, Housing Access worker(s), Parenting Support Worker, and Infant-Child Worker(s). When applicable, consult with Child Welfare Agencies and other support workers.
