Pay Rate: $24.77
Location: Wellington, Port Elgin
Hours of Work: 12hr shifts; up to 84 hours bi-weekly; every other weekend. Do you want to make a difference in the lives of people and the community? If that is you, you have come to the right place! At Community Living Owen Sound and District, we are looking for outgoing, energetic, and compassionate people to join our team to support people with intellectual disabilities to live their best lives. You will be joining a dedicated team of direct support professionals who are committed to creating a community of inclusion where all people are welcomed and accepted. As a Support Worker with Community Living Owen Sound and District, you will be supporting people within their home to live their best lives. The Support Worker will support people with all aspects of daily living and explore opportunities to offer the people they support, so they can be as active as they choose to be within the community. The support worker will work with the people they support to encourage them to live independent lives where they are able to complete daily tasks and responsibilities independently. RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work each day towards supporting people based on the mission, vision and values of Community Living Owen Sound and District to live their best lives;
  • Establishing respectful relationships with people, recognizing their rights as citizens; promoting their dignity and well-being;
  • Assist people to develop informed decision- making skills and exercising of choices;
  • Support each person as indicated by the person in their Individual Support Plan, Positive Behaviour Support Plan and any other protocols developed by the person supported;
  • Carry out established supports required for the health, safety and rights for the protection and promotion of each person;
  • Provide support in a person\xe2\x80\x99s home; preparing nutritional meals, administering medication, assisting with personal care and other areas as needed or requested;
  • Accurately complete any required documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of a Developmental Services Worker Program/Social Services Worker Program/Personal Support Worker Program and/or minimum 1 -year experience working with people with an intellectual disability;
  • Strong written, verbal and non-verbal skills;
  • Team player with an ability to work independently;
  • Comfortable with web- based technology;
  • Current First Aid/CPR;
  • Valid Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License;
  • Experience providing support to people with complex needs is a strong asset.

Community Support Worker \xe2\x80\x93 Passport (6 Month Contract)
Program: Passport Status: 6 Month Contract-up to 40 hours a week.
Pay Rate: $26.54 per hour
Location: Owen Sound, Port Elgin, and surround areas.
Hours of Work: Based on the needs of people supported and may include, days evening and weekends. Do you want to make a difference in the lives of people and the community? At Community Living Owen Sound and District, we are looking for outgoing, energetic, and compassionate people to join our team to support people with intellectual disabilities to live their best lives. You will be joining a dedicated team of direct support professionals who are committed to creating a community of inclusion where all people are welcomed and accepted. Reporting to the Manager of Passport, Employment and Individualized Funding, the Community Support Worker \xe2\x80\x93 Passport will be responsible for empowering individuals with a developmental disability to achieve personal success and encourage independence and skill development through person directed planning and direct supports. The delivery of supports will be individualized through the utilization of Passport Funding and other sources of individualised funding and may include, but not limited to activities of daily living, community participation and community access, relationship building, transportation, and networking with families, individuals and community resources. RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work each day towards supporting people based on the mission, vision and values of Community Living Owen Sound and District to live their best lives;
  • Establishing respectful relationships with people, recognizing their rights as citizens; promoting their dignity and well-being;
  • Create activity calendars with various community options and events, to be complemented by 1:1 supports and/or with a small group;
  • Facilitate 1:1 or small group activities around approved Passport guidelines;
  • Supports with volunteering within the community, and employment supports;
  • Provide indoor and outdoor recreation and leisure activities, promoting an active lifestyle;
  • Support people to participate in interest groups and clubs in the community;
  • Support people to participate in cultural events of their interest;
  • Work as a team member with others providing support to the person;
  • Maintain up to date case notes, progress reports and files in appropriate data base with relevant and up to date documentation;
  • Ensure that people are supported as per their goals for Passport activities within the established budget;
  • Maintain accountability for supplies, cash and other funds as applicable;
  • Accurately complete any required documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • DSW, Recreation and Leisure Diploma, or equivalent degree/diploma in a related field.
  • 2-5 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in the social services and or community support sector, preferable with individuals with an intellectual disability.
  • Program development and implementation experience.
  • Strong understanding of the Passport Program guidelines.
  • Experience working with people facing barriers to full community participation.
  • Superior communication skills, interpersonal skills, team work skills, negotiation skills, and problem solving.
  • Effective and accurate written and oral communication is required.
  • Proficient in the use of computers including MS Office, and web-based data base programs, etc.
  • Current valid certificate in First Aid, C.P.R., Non-Violent Crisis /Intervention (CPI).
  • Current valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and own reliable transportation to be used in the course of employment.
  • Exemplary Customer service skills, the ability to advocate for others, creative problem-solving skills, initiative, resilience, and a profound desire and ability to enhance the lives of supported individuals.

The delivery of supports is individualized; involving but not limited to household management skills, relationship building, personal health and wellness and networking with families, individuals and community resources to enhance the quality of life of the individual. RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Self-directed: confident in exercising judgement and making decisions.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Advocating for others.
  • Ability to make decisions and exercise judgement within generally prescribed procedures, instructions and standards.
  • The ability to be flexible in adapting to and working effectively within a variety of situations, and with various individuals or groups. Being adaptable in understanding and appreciating different and opposing perspectives on an issue or situation, adapting one\xe2\x80\x99s approach as the requirements of a situation change.
  • Counselling skills, behavioural interventions, conflict resolution, money management and interpersonal skill development.
  • Familiarity with computers.
  • Demonstrated willingness to collaborate effectively with others is critical to creating alignment within and across groups, and to providing high levels of services to those who are supported.
  • Maintain stamina and performance and to act effectively under pressure.
  • Demonstrate a positive work performance.
  • Must have a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and use of a vehicle.
  • Must be able to adhere to IPAC (Infection Protection and Control) practices and wear Personal Protective Equipment when and where applicable.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Have formal knowledge of developmental disabilities. This knowledge would typically be acquired by obtaining a two-year related Community College diploma.
  • Have a minimum of two years with related experience with a minimum of one year in the provision of direct support for people with developmental disabilities.
  • A good understanding of dual diagnosis.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification is required within 30 days of hire.
