Under the direction of the General Foreman/Department Manager, this position is primarily accountable for the supervision of a full operating shift of the department. The incumbent is given considerable decision making in the operation and oversight of the shift. Reporting to the incumbent are approximately twenty (20) hourly production workers.

You Have:
  • A minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience
  • Experience supervising unionized workers
  • Steel industry or heavy industrial production environment experience preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Good leadership and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work 12-hour continental shift rotations
  • SAP and Kronos experience an asset
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for providing and maintaining a safe work environment for employees and assuring enforcement of safety practices and regulations.
  • Oversee and supervise a shift of 15-20 employees to ensure safe and reliable operation of plant production and equipment to prevent damage and minimize repair
  • Ensure that all employees work in accordance with all Company policies and procedures and document and report immediately any violations to the Manager
  • Ensure throughout the shift that proper methods and procedures are being followed and that quality, safety, environment standards are being met
  • Develop and excute cross training programs for personnel
  • Maintain good employee relations, through training, evaluation, discipline and consistent application of the collective agreement
  • Work in collaboration with the production team and other departments (Maintenance, Quality, etc.)
  • Prepare and submit daily reports on production, individuals, and overall shift performance
  • Departmental housekeeping - promote and actively develop 5S methodology
  • Lead team activities to improve goals
  • Ensure all environmental practices and guidelines are followed
  • Assist Department Manager to develop safety and environmental conscious team by ensuring team and safety meetings are held regularly and overall safety performance is assessed and reviewed during monthly crew meetings
  • Conduct accident and incident investigations and completes required forms to determine root cause to prevent future reoccurrences
